Three Scythers.

Baited one. It fled.
Rocked one. It fled.
Balled one. It fled.

One Chancey so far and it fled after I tried catching it.

Fuck this place

Isn't the odds of actually catching a chansey in the 1% of cases that you see one, like astronomically low or something?

Was there ever some sort of method of increasing catching odds in Safari Zone? As a kid I just randomly baited or hit it with a rock.

I definitely don't miss the Safari Zone.

The Sinnoh version of it was the worst.

I feel like the friend safari that pitted people against each other based on the RNG of their game cartridge is by definition the worst for doing that.

Only a 5% chance (8% in GSC) that they would even be holding it. The Lucky Punch item--an item that only they can use but at the same time is near-useless for them--is much more common.

Plus, depending on the game, Chansey may not even carry Lucky Eggs at all.

Still haven't caught a Chancey or even seen a Tauros but I ran into four Kangaskhans. All stuck around for at least three safari balls that each shook three times before they burst out.

God damn it.

At least I got a Dratini.

I think I remember reading somewhere that, statistically speaking, youre much better off just throwing safari balls and ignoring the rock/bait mechanic.

Only in Gen 1.

In FRLG, it's only in the Safari Zone. Don't know which version TC is playing, though.

If he is on gen 1 he could use the find safari zone pokemon at Cinnabar island using the missingno glitch method.

I found a shiny Rhyhorn once, it fled.
Immediately after a shiny Venomoth appeared... Also fled.

I stopped using the safari zones then, and fortunately encountered a shiny Ponyta later that night in a regular route. I masterballed that one out of frustration, and its ability was run away(just to rub salt in the wound).

Still not sure if that was a lucky day, or an unlucky one.

I'm playing FireRed. So this is my only chance for Chancey :(

Still trying to catch every Pokemon I can without trading and not counting the Johto ones unlocked later.

Anyone got any tips for Porygon?

Get a ton of money from beating Trainers and the Elite Four over and over again (having your battling Pokemon hold the Amulet Coin helps wonders).
Covert the money to Coins at the Game Corner.
Get Porygon when you have enough Coins.

I doubt anyone even bothers doing it the "correct" way by playing the slots.

Beldum was only found in the safari zone in HGSS

it has a catch rate of 3, which is the same as hard-to-catch legendaries, and since its a safari Pokmon, you have no way of weakening it, you just have to toss Safari Balls (as effective as Great Balls) and hope it doesnt flee

Considering how poorly made Gen 1 was, I'd be surprised if doing anything other than throwing balls was more than a placebo.

The Mew glitch at Cerulean is the more guaranteed way of getting Mew.

It's even worse in nuzlocke runs. Even using repels to get to the "good" areas you're just kinda betting on good rng for it to appear and catch anything worthwhile.
