If you held off on building a PC because new cards are on the horizon, you'd never have a PC

Pretty much.

I upgrade my GPU every 3 years or so, and my cpu every 3-4 years. Just the way that optimization works for pc means that even if your a generation or two behind it's not that big of a deal unless you're trying to go for 4K + quality

Yeah I built my PC back in May and kept hearing "don't build now, just wait a few months" for the new Nvidia series and AMD chips

So anyway I've been enjoying 7 months of gaming with no problems

The only way to get them without paying scalpers is to buy a prebuilt. My girlfriend needed to do a near entire rebuild anyway, so she bought an Ibuypower PC on Black Friday which comes with a GTX 3070. It was on sale, so it was even cheaper than if she had built it herself.

Look for used previous gen cards on like offer up or craigslist. You can RMA those cards and practically get brand new and you only paid a fraction of the price.

I love looking for cheap second hand components on those sites.

I was gonna wait for them but as soon as I saw they weren't actually gonna be available I just got a cheaper one. I was planning on over clocking all my GUI terraflops anyway.

If you read this signature, then that meant that I had control of what you read for 5 SECONDS!!

This. Most advice you see on PCH is 'wait for X'.

I thought people only say that because the current best cards will get cheaper, not because you should buy the new ones

"Building a PC is cheaper than buying prebuilt"

*RTX 2060 Super is $900*

You'll regret it in 4 years when the next cards come out.

Right, my gtx 1060 and i5 4690k are more than sufficient to play the games I enjoy at 1440p

I always save a ton of money by just getting older parts

I was super lucky I was able to order a 3060 ti from Best Buy. The scalping situation as well as the crypto-miners right now makes it hard to pick up a gpu though, even used ones.

As long as you know what the best price/value for a component is and what you're willing to spend, I think it's a good time.

I've heard people saying to buy a prebuilt with the card you want, replace the card with your current GPU, then resell it. It doesn't sound like the worst idea in the world.
