Meh who cares what she wants to be called?

Anyone who says "I refuse to call this lady Lt Copper because she's only a WIFE!" who then turns around and yells at conservatives for not calling transgender men and women their new names is a massive hypocrite

Just call people the name that makes them happy. Why do you gotta be a jerk? It isn't hurting you.
Theres a difference. Rank in the military is earned. You aren't going to address someone who's never served with a military rank just because they have a spouse in the military.

You address a transgendered person by their preferred pronoun because that's how they identify as.

Its not like every job in the military necessarily involves gunning people down. You could serve in the military and never see direct combat.

There are a lot of technical, medical, cryptological, administrative, etc positions in the military.

If you think everyone who enlists is just dying to shoot up brown people, you have a warped perception of servicemembers.

Enlistment should be random and universal or voluntary and without any secrecy or euphemism that your job is hired killing. There's a lot of military in my family and it's weird to me that we're supposed to worship these people as gods while ignoring, downplaying and euphemizing the (purported) wholly-just smiting they are employed to do, for the purpose our worship. If what they're doing is good, why can't we call their job what it is?

If the only reason you join the military is for the benefits, you obviously aren't taking the oath very seriously (nor should you, since it's a desperation move in a shit career). The whole thing is a ponzi scheme meant to scoop up the desperate or sociopathic.

If you aren't doing hired killing, but rather data gathering, you'd be better served not being deployed alongside a bunch of tanks and flashy racists. If you aren't doing hired killing but rather just supplying the hired killers with the stuff of life, you should have gotten a job in the hotel industry or catering.

If you're a spouse, you are worth nothing to me, because you chose to join up with a hired killer/for-fun sociopath and that's the row you chose to hoe. I don't fall over myself praising oil rig workers' spouses or the spouses of triage nurses working swing shift (though perhaps ought).

I agree that (to rebuke Mike Huckabee) the military's job ought not be "kill people and break things," but that is definitely what its goal has been for more than most of our lifetimes. The noble projects of intel gathering, bridge building (i.e. Army Corps of Engineers) and extant-road-bomb disarmament would each be better served by a non-militarized gang of people whose only qualifier to join was "good at fitness" and "few other job prospects."

I'm actually not opposed to the death penalty or a violent military; I just simply want us to acknowledge the gravity and import of what we ask our military to do rather than pretend that anyone in possession of fatigues and a pension is just a different flavor of Mr. Rogers + Jesus.

I noticed you dodged the others

Maybe the wife's title was honorary and her husband bestowed

maybe calling her it is showing respect to him?

Point is why does it matter

Either you effortlessly make people happy

or actively go out of your way to intentionally make people miserable with considerable effort for no reason

I don't get that mindset

This is like owning an iPhone and looking down on others for buying products manufactured at Foxconn. You're still reaping the rewards of the US' meddling in the Middle East as the US is there to maintain the sovereignty and economic dominance of the US dollar (as well as maintain their end of the bargain with Saudi Arabia in the case of the Yemeni crisis).

There are plenty (not all, of course) of military spouses who believe they are automatically entitled to something by virtue of being married to someone else. That's what we're railing against. And yes, there are literally people out there who present themselves as having earned a military rank equivalent to their spouse's just because they are married to that spouse - it's not *as* common as the general sense of entitlement, but it does happen.
