45 million. Let me put this in perspective. If each turkey were a person, that's like eating the population of the 24 least populated US states, largest being Oregon. For what? Thanksgiving? Disgusting.

This year, why not consider vegetarian options? There's tofurkeys and they taste great. Not wanting turkey? Impossible burgers are AMAZING and eating them reminds me of when I used to eat burgers. They're not vegan since they use the same grills as meat burgers, but at least no animal died for your meal.

You could be compassionate and eat vegetarian/vegan food, or eat the flesh of innocent animals that only ever wanted freedom. But before you do, put yourself in their position. How would you like it to be raised on a factory farm, having an awful life until you're eventually steamed alive, plucked, killed, shipped, frozen, thawed, cooked, and then eaten? You probably wouldn't like that. So why pay for people to do that to some innocent animal?

Boycott meat and have a cruelty-free Thanksgiving.

Just 45 million? I think, as a nation, we can do better. Let's shoot for 50 million next year, everybody.

For real for real though, I watched this documentary on Netflix about nutrition in relation to fitness and it really opened my eyes on a lot of stuff and I'm even considering trying to slowly convert to vegetarianism. Not vegan though cause that's just too much work and those people are annoying and preachy.

On an actual serious note I do think about the treatment of animals and how we bring them into this world just to harvest them. They are living creatures and its a sad existence we put them through.

Its clear to see how some works of fiction get the idea to reverse the roles, like those Abe games, that soylent green bullshit, and even with FFVII, what with harvesting souls to power your lightbulbs.

at the same time, I still don't do anything or haven't changed my lifestyle to protest it. I do try to appreciate things in life more now, and with my many pets, I try to do the same with animals.

At this point it really is a machine too big to stop since literally the world relies on doing this to animals for food

But it's perfectly OK to do the same thing to plants, which are also living creatures?

Doesnt it just feel so good when you see a plant that is whithering, sagging, and essentially suffering.

They all have their quirks

Some are photogenic

Some don't like to be touched

But they're all delicious

Yeah I've only eaten one thing that still had a face and it was... interesting.

I've heard they taste like a mix of duck and rabbit and those are like my two favorite things so I won't be deterred!

Everyone should always consider more vegetarian options, easy enough to make delicious and economical food, and there's some seriously good veg food... basically all I cook personally. It's just easier with meat to make something protein filled and tasty.

45 million seems high. So that's basically one per 7 people in America? I mean, sure, I ate Turkey on Thanksgiving, but in a crowd of more than seven people. If we use a 10 people : 1 turkey ratio, we'd only need like 30 million, right? You can't tell me we overproduce by 50% and 15 million birds get stuck in grocery stores unsold or whatever.
