I'm good with more Mass Effect. I'm sure it'll be fanservice heavy since it's been so long since ME3 and Andromeda was a disaster for them. I don't know that I'll have high expectations, but I'll probably enjoy it.

Mass Effect is a neat universe with fun aliens, theres no need to let it die

if anything they should do more extended universe stuff with it. The series doesnt have to just exist as BioWare RPGs

Destroy is the only one they could realistically continue from, imo.

IMO they should expand the universe if they're gonna continue with it at all, but I honestly have zero faith in Bioware and fully expect them to fold long before this (or Dragon Age) release, so it's not worth the effort to think about.

The industry really had a chance to make a statement and recognise a game whose workers were treated with respect and basic human dignity during its development. Instead they chose TLOU2, a game made with the same old AAA nightmarish conditions that materially hurt its workers. They chose to reward the executives for engaging in crunch culture and proving that despite the occasional article bemoaning crunch, many journalists/devs have no intention of trying to shift the industry in a better direction. Pretty depressing, imo. See you again next year for the same thing with Cyberpunk.

Last of Us made multiple groups mad, though. The people who just want to hate on the game of course, but also the people who THOSE people hate who are upset about the awful working conditions and terrible leadership at Naughty Dog.

I'm kinda curious what would have happened if Cyberpunk came out a bit earlier so it qualified for the 2020 Game Awards but still released in a similar form that it does today. So the judges wouldn't be able to account for future patches on the game.

Making choices based off the crunch situation seems difficult. Just because we dont hear about Ghost of Tsushima or Doom being crunched hard doesnt mean they werent... theres a real risk of rewarding a studio that was bad too, but managed to avoid being exposes.

Yeah I was specifically referring to Hades, Supergiant has been very open about being an anti-crunch studio, forcing time off and banning working weekends etc, so it would have been a real statement to give those guys that award. Of course you're right there's plenty of others with crunch, and Japan has a different situation where it just doesn't blow up because it's so normalised and ingrained into their day to day culture. I still think rewarding Naughty Dog (and CDPR/Rockstar etc) when their practices are so blatantly awful and widely known says a whole lot more than if they chose one of the ones where we don't know what went on behind the scenes. It's like an explicit endorsement of those practices.

Destroy was supposed to be the "bad" ending of Mass Effect, wasn't it?

I mean, it was my preferred ending over Reapershep or DNA Cocktail, but I think it was also supposed to be the ending you'd get for making bad decisions or something iirc.

Nah, Refuse is the true bad ending, which was added in for the DLC. Destroy doesn't have to be a bad ending. It is the only ending Shepard can survive if you get your war assets high enough. But yeah, if your war assets are too low, you basically destroy the Mass Relays and doom the galaxy.

High EMS Destroy is the only one where you get the Shepard breath bit I think. It felt the most right of all of them. Though yeah Low EMS Destroy is where things get pretty fucked but I forget if the same thing can happen if you have low EMS Control.

It could be a Reaper that was destroyed in the war itself before the ending. I mean, I've always viewed Destroy as the canon ending, although the fact that it kills off EDI and the geth is an unfortunate consequence.

I still think you could bullshit the whole "Geth and EDI get killed" thing. Just have some of them survive in some bunker or something.

As for em being destroyed during the war it is a possibility but I think it is leaning more toward the Destroy end. Especially since the one in the distance seems relatively in tact. I think the debris during one of the zoom ins might be from the crucible

Yes. Synthesis you could only get with high enough EMS for it to even be an option. That said the "Good" Destroy ending was similar where if you had high EMS things didn't get fucked and I think it is the only one where you get the Shepard last second breath with him in some rubble so that could be the "best" ending depending on how you view the whole thing

How much do we know about ME Legendary trilogy thing? Should I expect like actual work put into making it look/feel better or is it gonna be some lazy port?

I mean I could see Mass Effect 4 basically being the survivors of the Normandy hunting for Shepard, which can only work if Destroy is canon.

Maybe though my guess for the time could be either not so long after or WAAAAY after (like hundreds of years). They make a point to show the Andromeda galaxy in the starting bit and the radio chatter mentions "initiate first contact protocols". Maybe the colored light show of choice at the end of ME3 attracted the Remnant from Andromeda or some other out galactic thing and they are coming to say hi. They could also do something with the Leviathans. Those are still a thing

Synthesis is the only ending that actually works for me, I'm always surprised it's not the most popular. ME3's whole theme is 'Can organics and synthetics work together and live in peace?' or 'Is synthetic life as valuable as organic life?' and Destroy's answer to both is just 'no'. Yes it's a very hamfisted theme and it's not consistent with the rest of the trilogy and none of the endings make sense and Joker's hat appears to gain sentience etc, but like it's the only one that even remotely fits in with what they were attempting to do. Except Refuse I guess, but they don't count that as a true ending.

Also I couldn't do EDI and the Geth like that.

Isn't Control more the Saren ending? Synthesis seems like the only one that doesn't have huge problems killing the Geth is a huge problem.

synthesis is like the third way path option that always seemed right to me but also its weird and theres some logistical issues about what exactly it means...
the final cutscene shows big leaves with circuitry patterns? so just everything organic is techno now? but if nonsentient organic stuff like a plant got synthesized, did nonsentient mechanical stuff get organic? Are toasters gonna bleed now? It seems a little too much like straight up magic for them to follow up on

Wheeling it back again, George Broussard made a big stink about Kotaku being hacks for not liking how Naughty Dog's bad studio environment was rewarded, saying crunch was good and that you can't take the word of any ex-employees worth a grain of salt, and now Twitter is just flooded with posts about "you took 15 years to make Duke Nukem Forever, asshole".
