I know he want to build a city on Mars, which will cost trillions of dollars to accomplish, and I also heard that he wants to terraform Mars, even though its physically impossible due to Mars not having an atmosphere.
Even if Musk somehow managed to terraform Mars to an Earth like atmosphere, it would just be swept away from our Suns solar winds and radiation, rendering it uninhabitable due to Mars lack of a magnetospere. Does he not realize that colonizing Mars is just about impossible in our life time, and is probably not even profitable in the long run? ... Copied to Clipboard!

If I had to guess, he's more interested in advancing possibility than improving what we have now.
The reason space technology has advanced so slowly is because there is no monetary benefits in doing so.
