Will you comply to a national lockdown if it is imposed?

A new Gallup poll shows that 51% of Americans will NOT COMPY with another month long lockdown despite 61% believing the virus is getting WORSE!!

The survey was conducted just before Joe Biden's win as his administration said they would not shy away from a month lockdown to contain the virus as only 49% of people would comply...which paints the picture of the election as well given that just over half voted for Biden and the other for Trump which is how the country feels about the virus at this stage.

This is much different when back in March when 67% said they would comply

America is getting record breaking covid-19 cases with over 100,000 a day and now reaching 1900+ deaths as hospitalizations are hitting the midwest the hardest with single digit highs

There are more than 10 million cases in the US and more than 241,000 have died with texas alone surpassing 1 million cases as the state has an extremely relaxed restrictions with no mask or social distancing mandate

Deaths are still about half what they were back in March but respondents still believe it is getting worse

Only 40% of Republicans would comply to a lockdown as 87% of Democrats would but one theory why most won't is because they believe wearing a mask has a protectin while others believe a vaccine is on the way as well as herd immunity.

It took americans a month before mask wearing became a part of every day routine and while no one wants a lockdown, Joe Biden believes that a lockdown for 4-6 weeks could prevent the US from going into "COVID HELL"

Dr Michael Osterholm said a national lockdown much like many asian countries have done is the best way to keep hospitalizations and deaths down and that the economy will not suffer if enough money is borrowed to pay wages.

Bidens COVID task force will approach a strategy on how to proceed but Dr Anthony Fauci believes the US can avoid a shutdown because a vaccine is on the way although asking americans to take 2 shots will be the hardest sell given the vaccine has only been made in less than a year

Would you comply if there's a national lockdown in the winter?

That's a lot of big talk and nothing more. The police is pretty militarized and people aren't gonna want to get fines or ass kickings if it gets to the point where it's a full-on lockdown with curfews and the like.

Don't worry, I am sure people will be allowed to peacefully protest.

It's almost like these "protests" are just an excuse for degenerates to act how they please and still think themselves to be morally superior.

Important Missing piece of information is exactly what "lockdown" means here

This. If it means not leaving the house at all, including work, I'm fine with it as long as I get money to pay bills and whatnot. If I won't get money, I'll be fine as long as I can still go to work... That being said, food might be an issue for some depending on what it means...

Not during a full lockdown, I wouldn't think. That would (and should) apply to any protest, too, regardless of the cause behind it. Ideally, a lockdown would effectively put the country on pause for a few weeks, with nothing non-essential happening so the virus can fizzle out and the reopening process can resume with fewer seed cases.

I generally liked what Canada did with CERB, but I really think they should have pushed harder to freeze living costs. They deferred mortgages, but not rent or property taxes (although most provinces had a ban on evictions due to delinquent rent, which I don't think is a good way to handle it), so a lot of people had most of their CERB money go toward rent. Had they frozen rent and property taxes as well to eliminate everyone's housing costs, and included landlords in CERB (since they still need to eat), I feel like that would have allowed everyone to subsist on smaller benefits (60% of mine went toward rent and I was able to provide for two of us on that with a bit of belt-tightening, so slashing everyone's benefit by half would probably have been fine). Yes, landlords would be making less money than usual, but provided their basic needs are covered (especially with their housing costs deferred), they'd be fine joining the rest of the business world in making less money.

But yeah, freezing housing costs is an essential component of a successful lockdown. Locking down doesn't do anyone any good if they all end up homeless by the time they can go back to work. Same with providing subsistence funds (read: a stimulus bill that actually just goes to people that need it and doesn't give million-dollar bonuses to executives who could subsist with no additional income for the next 400 years if they were made to). America's failure to get the virus under control is due to more than just their failure to properly enact such measures (the culture of resisting even reasonable authority is the biggest culprit), but that's definitely been a component.

I dont think its needed anymore and dont think it will be effective and at this point COVID is just a way to continue transfer as much power as possible to larger corporations.

a lockdown at this point is wholly pointless, you'd need a 3month quarantine now due to there being multiple strains
