The person they are suing obviously doesnt have that kind of money for the lawsuit. Im not sure how this even works because if you sue someone for that amount of cash, its not like they are going to get it anyways. I keep seeing crap like this all the time on POTD where someone is always suing someone over every little silly thing. But I dont even know how it even works when again, the person in question being sued doesn't have that amount of money.

If they can't pay their million dollars the court gives them a maid outfit and they become indentured to the other person until they can pay it off.

Then you have your wages garnished for basically life, and don't end up paying the full amount by the time you die

Ok, but lets say this person has no job. Probably mentally ill, or etc. Then what? These kinds of scenarios also come to mind because the amount some people sue, is just insane. Its not like they have cash coming out of their arsehole for whoever they end up suing, and they obviously willingly know this? There is no common sense... just becuase they want the money, but its not like they are going to get it all willy nilly if the person is poor, makes minimum wage at a shit job, mentally unwell like I mentioned, or etc.

Then nothing happens. They can try to file for bankruptcy and get the judgment discharged essentially. You can't get money from people who don't have it.

Well a judge is likely to throw a case like that out of court if someone is unjustly suing someone for some clearly undeserved amount

if someone doesnt have the means to pay a court ordered payment then they can be forced to hand over any assets they own and can have their wages garnished

Well it doesnt work. The person would just file for bankruptcy if a judge ordered them to pay that amount.

To start, you have to suffer damages of a million dollars to successfully sue for a million dollars.

Lets take that one story about the couple suing the school system for a million buckaroos over the Jesus face mask their child had on. Would this obviously get laughed out of court? In what world are the damages in that amount of money?

A case wouldn't be dismissed on the amount they're suing for. If they won the case, the judge could reduce the amount of what they're awarded if it's obviously inflated.

Depends on state laws. Some states have asset protection.
