Moral of this story is to only shitpost with throwaway accounts on Reddit. Some people there have legit issues and inferiority complexes.

Like I said, we often take anonymity online for granted and overshare personal info. If someone with a grudge, time, and a little know-how wants to, they can compile the information we share yo narrow down our identity.

Especially if you do something like using the same email or username on multiple platforms.

I was doxxed about 8 years ago, 2 times. One was posted here on CE (I was under a different username then), and the other was spread on both Tumblr and /b/ on 4chan. Luckily both instances found an old disconnected landline phone number that hadn't been in use for like 5 years at that point. I know how you feel how gross it is to be doxxed, but the reason for your firing was very justified.

That guy is a POS, but I also can't respect someone who hates their job so much they become apathetic to the point that they do what TC did at the workplace. I've had jobs that I hated, but I always performed to the best of my ability, regardless.

Take this as a lesson and better yourself, seeking sympathy from others over your poor decisios is a bit weak.

I feel its one of those you get what you paid for type of jobs. Pay a shit wage expect shit results

There are places that tell you anything other than "don't stop them?" unless you are security? I thought that was a standard protocol, as costs if you get hurt aren't worth it for a business.

That's definitely a problem with places that save all of your posting history. Little bits of info that you share over the years can eventually lead to somebody putting together a pretty good profile of who you are.

Been there my man. Didn't get fired for it thankfully. But a couple months ago when I was still working with Walmart someone on my local facebook group took a screenshot of me just letting the group know of the new Walmart policies for Covid 19, with a little information of how to beat the crowds. That was screenshotted by them and sent to my "boss". I use quotation marks because she wasn't my boss, she was the manager of fresh, who for some reason was given power to piss people off in other departments. She wrote me up and told me that head office would probably want to speak to me.

I called her bluff, head office didn't show up, and my post wasn't actually harmful to Wal-Mart despite her saying it was. What a bitch she was. I was praying she would get fired. Funny part is, nearly my entire department quit after I left.

This is whats not making sense.

Stopping shoplifters is legally questionable to begin with and something most stores shy away from. But not only that, this incident supposedly occurred years ago?

Ive worked enough retail to know that 1 year in retail equals about five years in a normal job. So we can assume that TC was in some kind of authority position years ago when this TV was taken if he was expected to stop it. Now hes been in some kind of management position since then. So what are we talking about? 5 to 10 years as a manager? I cant imagine any retail store instantly firing a long time manager over an unconfirmed Reddit post. Maybe a warning, but a firing? And within days of the incident happening? I can barely imagine HR even picking up the phone on this, let alone firing a possible decade long employee with days of an Internet stranger calling their office.

Then we get into he broke into my email. The long known rallying cry of hoaxers. How exactly did this happen? Its not 1999. Even assuming there was no two-step, last time I tried to recover an old email I was bombed with recovery questions. Did this guy answer them all?

I dont know, something about this story doesnt ring true to me. Either this guy left A LOT out or hes making it up.

To say that is a nice thing, he'd have to be the sort of person who likes to look up a person's posting history to try to make some dumb call out or gotcha during an argument.

Half of the people where i used to work were laid off because they were not qualified for the position, so people been working there for 20 years without a degree had to leave too, even if they were capable of doing the job fine

Yes. My first name was posted years ago. Among my first reddit posts. Didnt think he found it but, he did. He found what city I was in based off a post I made asking for recommendations for restaurants. The rest he found by google and finding my Reddit username was similar to one I had on another forum. There he found everything he needed to find my facebook/employer/etc.

All this just because you said you allowed one instance of shoplifting? I find it wild if he didnt have any prior history with you.

I try to avoid arguments where I have to explain how semantics and syntax work, but if you try to explain what constitutes a flaw, I feel like you'll expose the problem with your statement. Go ahead.

For a starting point: There's no definition of a platform in which 'security' is a fundamental part of that definition.
