https://kotaku.com/playstation-5-the-kotaku-review-1845588904

An excerpt:

But Id be remiss to ignore all the reasons not to be excited for the PlayStation 5.
The world is still reeling under the weight of the covid-19 pandemic. There are more Americans out of work right now than at any point in the countrys history, with no relief in sight. Our health care system is an inherently evil institution that forces people to ration life-saving medications like insulin and choose suicide over suffering with untreated mental illness.
As Im writing this, it looks very likely that Joe Biden will be our next president. But its clear that the worst people arent going away just because a new old white man is sitting behind the Resolute deskwell, at least not this old white man. Our government is fundamentally broken in a way that necessitates radical change rather than incremental electorialism.
The harsh truth is that, for the reasons listed above and more, a lot of people simply wont be able to buy a PlayStation 5, regardless of supply. Or if they can, concerns over increasing austerity in the United States and the growing threat of widespread political violence supersede any enthusiasm about the consoles SSD or how ray tracing makes reflections more realistic. Thats not to say you cant be excited for those thingsI certainly am, on some levelbut theres an irrefutable level of privilege attached to the ability to simply tune out the world as it burns around you.

Gaming journalism is a fucking joke, and don't you ever forget it.

Some of it is objectively wrong. The Americans out of work part is completely false. You only need to look back as far as one month ago. Or if you're out of date two months. Or for shits and giggles three. And you can keep on going back until like April if you're sticking to 2020 alone.

The problem with gaming journalists these days is that they're very clearly insecure that their writing profession is centered around a hobby most people dismiss as childish and immature, so they try to contort any benign topic to fit some exaggerated political narrative. They're effectively one step above people who go on morning news/talk shows and shill "THIS YEAR'S HOTTEST HOLIDAY TOYS".

Kotaku giving legitimacy to the word SJW as despective. Imagine reviewing the new SW movies and saying its not worth to go see it bc how things are in the world.

Maybe that IS what people need the most, right now? Not everything has to be doom and gloom all the time. Besides this is not Syria where the place you lived got completely destroyed. We just hit a recession due to a pandemic that kills less than 98% of the people who catch it. Not the end of the world scenario the reviewer tries to paint.

Here's the paragraph right before TC's excerpt:
This review has spent 3,000 words talking about the PlayStation 5, which is the most Ive written about anything. Its as good a video game console as there has ever been. The combination of ultra high-definition video, increased framerates, high-end graphics techniques like ray tracing, and the lightning-fast SSD make it feel like a real-deal, next-gen successor to the PlayStation 4. And if youre not ready to give up on the previous console, the PlayStation 5 reliably runs a vast majority of the PlayStation 4 library, with many of those games receiving upgrades to fidelity, framerate, and loading times.
As it points out, this is a fairly long review that talks all about the PS5's features and specs, and the games the reviewer played on it. Interesting that TC would pull a paragraph from the very end that is in no way indicative of the rest of the review

Perhaps whining isn't the word. TC's statement was "Gaming journalism is a fucking joke, and don't you ever forget it."

This statement was based on one paragraph at the very end of a 3000+ word review which talks extensively about the actual system.

So maybe not whining. Just kinda dumb.

interesting defending a review that spews out a bunch of unwanted political garbage that has zero place in a ps5 review.

doesnt matter that he reviewed it before his soapbox rant. Theres no fucking place for any of that in a god damn video game console review and its a joke that it was published

Been that way for ages now. To become a games journalist, you basically have washed out from reporting for a real publication, or were untalented enough to not get hired there in the first place, so we get to deal with the 4th rate journos.
