This stuff has been common as fuck this year.

"I would have enjoyed Half-Life Alyx more if it didn't remind me of 2020 so much!"
"The Last of Us 2 is about surviving a pandemic so I'm gonna compare it to our pandemic!"

Like damn shut the fuck up. Vice does this stuff so much especially.

Kotaku publishes review that successfully gets TC to give it free advertising and more page views ensuring that Kotaku knows it's doing a great job and should keep making content like this so OP can continue to freely advertise it.

Nah that's why TC shared the excerpt, so we don't need to click the article

That's a hell of an excerpt.

I don't mind someone including a comment on political or world circumstances when it comes to an opinion piece, but dedicating that much space to it is really distracting from the purpose of the piece.

In this case I think the comparison is actually very appropriate to make. All art is received into the world at a particular place and time, and the reception will always be a reflection of that. If you were to go back and read the TLOU2 reviews 20 years from now it might be useful to be reminded that the launch coincided with an actual pandemic.

From what I have heard COVID is thought to have increased sales, but it's sold out. A lot of analyists say the lockdowns greatly helped the Switch and will help these consoles as well.

We need laws or regulations about these types of people who can't focus on the subject on hand and go off ranting about politics or other unrelated stuff to the topic indicated in the headline.

They should be fired effective immediately for going off-topic in a "Professional" (I use that term very loosely) Publication.

The world doesn't need 13th rate Poltiical journalists and opinion pieces spread everywhere in every form of media.

If they want to be a Political Journalist, go join one of those Profesional Publications about Politics.

Or start your own Political Publication and write your own Op-Ed piece and see if people will want to read it.

NOBODY who reads a PS5 review expects or wants Off-Topic politics about the state of the world and how upset you are at it.

So I found they also have an article on there about the XBox having too many holes and it is traumatic for people with a fear of holes. I am serious.

Here's the paragraph right before TC's excerpt:
As it points out, this is a fairly long review that talks all about the PS5's features and specs, and the games the reviewer played on it. Interesting that TC would pull a paragraph from the very end that is in no way indicative of the rest of the review
That is interesting

Too much politics in gaming.
Literally taking a Tucker Carlson attitude into a gaming journalism environment. (and there are plenty on the left who are bad or worse than Tucker.)

So putting irrelevant bullshit in a review is not bad writing if there it there are more paragraphs that are relevant? I guess the next movie review I read can have 5 paragraphs about the author's new puppy as long as there are 6+ paragraphs about the content of the movie.

It's what separates this gen from every other generation of consoles. They both fit into existing ecosystems instead of creating new ones, similar to how upgrading to a new PC allows you to run all your games at higher settings while also allowing you to run upcoming games your old PC wouldn't have been able to

Actually my wife and I were talking about this yesterday and thought of a really good point about this rant, and why it's rubbish.

Across the world, over the last year, there's game devs and other studio employees who have been busting their asses off to get these new consoles out. They've worked through the pandemic, twice as hard, because they want these systems to be out in time for Christmas. Business aside, a lot of these developers are human beings who like seeing their hard work make people smile, and that probably goes double in a year like this.

Writing off new consoles as a form of privilege is insanely disrespectful to every person in the game industry who worked so hard to get these things out on time. People want and deserve a sense of normalcy, so telling them to check their privilege for doing so is fucking disgusting.
