It's been a nagging concern out of principle for a number of elections in living memory, but with the entire mail-in angle of this one it's throwing some pretty hard focus on just how archaic this entire process is.

Millions of votes cast without so much as a chain of custody? Numerous irregularities and "glitches". That's not an issue of who you or I voted for. The absurdity of it on the face if it shouldn't even be partisan. It's absurd that the integrity of the process should even be brought in to question in this country in this era of technology.

In the following days, it made me angry angrier than I thought I would be to see people dismiss all that work out of hand with no basis at all, or based on wild, concocted claims. This was my first time participating in vote-counting, and I saw how much work and care and attention go into ensuring that our elections run well. The cooked-up outrage, all those accusations or insinuations, also just felt dumb. They betray a profound lack of knowledge about the process a process that is completely knowable, if you take a moment to learn.

So what, you want big government to come in and force a common method to the states (which are guaranteed by the constitution their right to conduct elections as they choose)?

That's a false dichotomy and you know it. Roads, powerlines and water pipes don't just all dead-end at state borders. How then does it make sense for at least the national election to have 50 different systems? Missouri's state level elections have little bearing on voting in Massachusetts, but the system as it stands is illogical and archaic.

Don't think for a second the Republicans aren't going to go after Biden for the exact same thing the Dems spent 3 years trying to Impeach Trump over, and the votes are already there if it makes it to the Senate.

1) If Biden ever tries to use congressionally-appropriated funds to extort an ally into providing dirt on a political opponent, he 100% deserves to be impeached as well (and I would expect the Democrats to actually have a spine and remove him, rather than refusing to even hear evidence the way Republicans did).
2) The votes are not there in the senate to make it happen. At best, the Republicans will walk away from this election with a 52-48 edge; that means they'd need to convince 17 Democrats to cross the floor if they wanted removal to stick. If the charges wind up being a completely spurious set like you're implying, there is approximately a 0% chance of that happening. Hell, even if the charges were legit, it's *still* wildly improbable. Trump's guilt wasn't ever in doubt and there was still only a single Republican floor-crosser as a result.

Don't get me wrong, I would 100% report you. But I think you've always assessed my motivations incorrectly. I've always found the picture mildly amusing. I'm pretty sure I've told you that at some point. But I also find grown men throwing tantrums on the Internet even more hilarious, and getting you modded was always a good way to spark that fire!

I really don't see the problem w/ counting the ballots of people who died after they cast them, but before the election...

Like, what a weird mole hill to make a mountain out of. Considering elderly voters strongly lean Republican and are more likely to be the ones that fall into this situation, it probably benefits Republicans more than Democrats anyway.

It's not, the solution is to base voting based off verifiable cryptography. There's just no way you could convince the general population that a program would be that reliable. It would be impossible to get people to avoid flawed implementations as well. People would go, "what do you mean, it says cryptography inspired voting right there on their website!"

Say hypothetically I have a candidate supporting a perfect voting model that's mathematically impossible to skew, how am I supposed to convince anyone that it works? They do exist. I truly believe liars are more convincing when it comes to things I don't expect everyone to digest without doing their own research.

How will I explain it? "You can do the math on paper and it's mathematically impossible to falsify here's the Wikipedia article"
What will my response be? "You're oversimplifying it, it's a very intricate and nuanced issue. I watched an hour long segment from a really smart political philosopher and did my research. You do realize that anyone can edit Wikipedia?"

Trying to convince someone that a complicated issue has a very simple answer is like trying to tighten a bolt with a tool made out of soap. They'll always go for the harder answer when it comes to something they don't understand. It's human nature. If I wasn't knowledgeable about computers I would do it too.
