i'm not sure how this is that different than shit on the other side from the past 4 years or the past day. you can't go on talking about stacking the courts and making sure things are set up so the republicans never get power again and then turn around outraged/upset when they say they want payback too. both sides are saying the same thing there.

but nothing is nearly as bad as stuff like the recent "trump accountability project." making a list of people, including judges and donors. what a great idea, what could possibly go wrong? totally not something out of revenge or cruel, right?

What has the Democratic half of the country done in the past...let's say two decades...to make you think that their idea of "cruelty" and "retaliation" is anywhere near as dangerous as the Republican side of the aisle? For fuck's sake, the majority of the Democratic primary voters voted for a guy whose ultimate message was one of trying to unite the country again. How do you think both sides are anywhere near even in their inflammatory rhetoric?

I actually disagree with court packing (because it will just keep escalating and, imo, be bad in the long run), but ethically it's no different than what Mitch did to steal a SCOTUS seat. Both are technically totally allowed within the rules, but it's better for everyone to follow the norms than for everyone to break them. Mitch broke them, though, so the Dems have the unenviable task of playing hardball like Mitch or just getting screwed.

ExTha has said some incredibly stupid stuff tonight, but the world isn't going to disappear in 12 years.

Climatoligists are smart enough to give important deadlines for how long we have to unfuck ourselves from serious consequences, but even the smartest scientists in the world don't know the exact extent of these consequences, which is honestly the problem with not acting now. Humanity won't magically disappear in 20 or 50 years from now even in the worst case scenario that we did nothing to address climate change. The repercussions will gradually manifest over that time. This is not an excuse for not adressing climate change - it's something we should have been doing for decades - it's just stupid to become a doomsday cult about it.

AOC didn't specifically bring it up, it's a different group of people for that one. they messaged her but her statement wasn't exactly the same thing - her thing was more archive what people say. it wasn't 'here's a list of names of people connected at all to trump, including judges and donors.'

people who did that are tied to Pete. and promptly made it private once they realized exactly how bad that looks publicly.

I feel like Wang sees that "Trump Accountability" thing and automatically assumes that Dems would behave in the same way that Republicans would with regards to a "Hillary Accountability" list. We've seen what Dems consider holding people accountable. Protests, often loud (and admittedly sometimes violent, but it's hard to say how much of that violence is the direct result of the originators of the protests, and how much of it is due to outside interference stoking the flames". Loud confrontations at restaurants, or in elevators.

Meanwhile, just look at some of the things Trump supporters have done to his perceived enemies:

Mail bombs to various politicians, news organizations, and actors.
Attempted kidnapping plots of the Democratic governors or Michigan and Virginia.
Surrounding and running a Biden campaign bus off the road.

These reactions are not comparable by any stretch of the imagination.

has also been done to trump supporters and conservatives. violent action has happened in both directions here, both are bad.

the kidnapping in Michigan is going to going to be a weird one: it'll fall under FBI entrapment. the top two people of the operation, the ones who came up with the plans, the ones with access to anything that could do it, were the FBI agents leading it. as is the case for weird situations like this, don't trust the FBI outright. they are not your friends. gotta see the case in full.
