One minor quibble with this episode is that they never addressed Xander being responsible for this. There's an entire song where they're theorizing, people are burning to death, and Dawn is kidnapped by the demon, but he never volunteers the fact that he performed a magical ritual that he explicitly knew would cause all of this.

My question is why Buffy couldnt hear Giles sing. Did you say something? Like, she clearly heard the other songs.

No, that works fine. Sweet makes the town work by musical rules. He and Tara were singing silent monologue songs, so they're the only ones that could hear them.

I'm listening to the songs now on Youtube. Under Your Spell is actually pretty disturbing in context. I know the reprise directly parallels it, but the original is still pretty creepy.
