And got sniped before I could recruit a prophet. Ive even taken over two early civs but feel like my capital just wasted all this production on getting a great prophet I could never reach

Ive played Civ and like it but not enough to throw more then a few hours in.

I just dont get the appeal I guess, seems like local multiplayer could be fun.

I find it to be a lot of fun playing with like 1-2 other friends against the AI. Just play on normal difficulty and wait a certain amount of turns to build your city. Waiting about 30 turns usually makes for a really fun game, especially if you can use that time to find each other so you can build around each other.

The game does have a major flaw in that the point in which you've won and the point where it actually tells you that you won are very far apart. There will be so much tediously moving your at this point unstoppable armies across the map and you know you can't lose but it's just so time consuming to go around and kill everyone.
