There's multiple reasons why people are passing out.

  1. Huge crowd makes things chafy
  2. There's no shade, they're just standing in the sun
  3. They were already dehydrated before getting to the rally and this was the tipping point

Humid heat is vastly different than desert heat.

I'll take the 115 and dry we had in Phoenix this past summer over the 100 with 95% humidity I dealt with in South Carolina any day. 85-90 in very high humidity feels like 100+ anyway!

Lack of shade, excess body heat from the crowd, and high humidity seems pretty likely to cause issues.

I have my doubts that the ambient temperature in the immediate locale was only 87 F.
