I also like how the demo ends off right before you go off to recruit the champions. I was worried it would be all following a certain storyline and you wouldn't be able to deviate. Knowing you can choose which champion to recruit first, etc will be fun and reminiscent of BOTW.

Checking it out. So far I dont like how Links arrow move is aimed at all. Its super awkward feeling. What sense is there in making both analogs move it when youre stationary while using it??? It shouldve just been right analog only

it's definitely a lot different from Hyrule Warriors, at least with these few story sages to sample but also just from the differences in characters and holy moly all the different item/rune uses and woah paragliders

yeahh not sure I'll get much use of Link's Arrows, they don't even really kill mobs... love Link's Strong 2 giving a shield surf tho aww yeah

I mainly use the arrows to stagger far away enemies so I could set them up for a following attack

Impa is so much better to use in combat it makes Link feel like some background nobody character youd never field lol

Game's pretty damn good. The only worry I still have after playing is that it might end up being four hours long or something. I'm not holding out hope for the huge amount of content the first Hyrule Warriors had but I'd like to feel like I played a full game.

it's 2 story stages, and on the overworld map you can also find some character upgrades (just feed in ingredients and be rewarded with Link's Strong 4 attack or an additional heart for Impa or something

there's also... I think 3 it was? actual side stages of kill x amount of enemies, I forget what their actual reward was...

I think it was ~45 minutes content for me

Oh, I dont really care one way or another about them. For that matter Im not sure why the mini-guardian had to be thrown back in time either. Couldnt they have just started the game in the past?

Finally got to play and I guess I'll answer my own question - it's really terrible. Sucks extra because the game itself seems super cool! Impa especially is an absolute blast to tear up the field with. But yeah this game is really highlighting the need for a new Switch with better hardware.

I forgot to respond to this. Yeah it's not great. But I am familiar with Musou suffering so it doesn't bug me too much. Handheld mode looks softer than I would like but it's perfectly playable.

Ok finished the demo. Its not terrible, but not really impressing me either. The side content is just clicking an icon on the map and giving away items to fulfill it from the looks of it. This opens up some shops and upgrades what your characters can do, but that part isnt eventful because you just give away the materials from levels youve played. Some of the optional stuff is just non-plot battles so you can get more materials/money.

Control wise its ok for the most part, but some stuff feels a little slow/sluggish or even awkward. Sprinting isnt satisfying or all that fast even. Seems like the best way to deal with mobs is just using bombs or explosive barrels instead of actually fighting.

Honestly probably the most criminal thing in the demo is Impa is by far the most fun playable character for stuff she does in battle to the point where having to play as Link or Zelda just doesnt feel fun at all. Maybe they get better as they get upgrades, but goddamn theres no way Id actively pick to play as either of those two in the early game when Impa is an option.

What little the demo shows of the plot isnt all that interesting. I mean it isnt much at all, but its kinda dumb. I really dont see why it couldnt have just been a standard prequel

I got to liking Zelda, just took a bit of figuring her out since she's much more of an intentional use character... and yeah she doesn't have much attack options to start with so I gotta see her further levels of attacks

Definitely get the story complaint, if it sticks to the direction it's going in the demo then it's just time travel plot #5838423

Seeing the heroes actually lose could be interesting and a great leadup to Breath of the Wild, also wiping everyone out as Ganondorf/Zant/Ghirahim was the best part of the first Hyrule Warriors

I think it's pretty obvious this will be like a bittersweet kind of deal where everyone dies, but they are the only reason why there can still be civilization despite it all, with a theme of hope knowing that, in the end, it's all worth it because we're going to end up defeating Calamity Ganon and be able to begin civilization anew.
