Also Samsung: See, I never just did things just to do them. Come on, what am I gonna do? Just all of a sudden make fun of Apple for not including a charger and earphones in an ad like it's something to do? Come on. I got a little more sense then that.

Yeah, I remember making fun of apple. Also we're not including chargers and earphones with our next phone.

As an iPhone user, at least Samsung is using USB-C like every other new phone. Unlike Apple who is giving us a lightning to usb-c power cable when hardly ANYONE has a USB-C charger. I only have on because my iPhone 11 came with it.

Yeah, the difference is that Samsung isn't changing the charging cord at the same time as not providing a new one.

The only iPhones that came with a compatible charging cable were the pro models from last year, most of whom aren't replacing their phones after a single year. Everyone who has had their iPhone for 2 or more years, and are thus more likely to be thinking about an upgrade (or hell, even the non-pro versions of last year's iPhone), will now need to go purchase a charger separately and waste even more resources on the extra packaging from a second box.

Don't get me wrong, I still think it's stupid. But at least Samsung is doing this stupid thing correctly.

It's just that people don't like being told they're just paying for brand hype imo. So they go to great lengths to justify why their purchase was actually intelligent or well considered.

I mean, Apple kind of is. If your friends and family all have Apple products, to live with them without one means you are left out on a lot of stuff, or at least makes it a lot more annoying.

so unless the power requirement is now like, 25 watts, in which you need usb c power deliviery or whatever its called, why couldn't you use your old charger cable with an older power block?

The point is that Apple is claiming this move is for the environment. But they give you 2 options. You can use your old cable/charger, in which case they're including a completely wasteful and useless cable in the box for no reason (especially considering practically nothing currently has use for a USB-C connector outside of charging bricks). Or you can buy a new charger, which is going come in another wasteful excessively packaged box at the usual significantly marked-up price.

It's not actually helpful to anybody the way they have it set up. If you've got the iPhone 11 pro with the charging brick, then you already also already have the USB-C cable, so the one in the box is a waste. If you don't have the USB-C charging brick, then the cable in the box is even more useless and is a waste. It's moronic and literally only serves as enticement to buy yet another Apple accessory that used to come packaged with the phone but has been removed so that they can charge for it instead.

EDIT: Yeah, I misunderstood the initial question. That's my bad. It's a stupid move because they claim it to be for environmental reasons, but their implementation is basically the exact opposite of environmental. But yes, you can still use and charge your new phone with the old cables. Albeit not as quickly, which is one of the selling points of upgrading in the first place.

Samsung will now issue 3 years of OS updates starting with the 2019 flagships. Previously, you got 2 years of OS updates and several more years of security patches (which often came bundled with new features).

Although Apple will update the OS for several more additional years, they often fail to port over things like new camera features to older devices. The 11 series debuted night mode but the XS generation never got that. The new 12 series gains night mode for all cameras (finally) and I guarantee you that the 11 series will never receive this. Google and Samsung are better at that as they debut new camera features on new devices while trickling them down to older devices with software updates.

No, because everyone loses the chargers somehow (protip, stay off your phone and don't leave battery draining shit on and you won't need to move the charger to take it places) and the shitty earbuds (an oxymoron, all earbuds suck) they include break on people because they mistreat them.

Apple only includes the Lightning-to-USB C cord in the box so unless you're upgrading from an 11 series device, you're going to be buying a new cable and brick anyway to take advantage of the new charging speeds. It's a monumentally stupid thing of them to do.

Floppy disk could whole less information. Wired head phones can give you the same audio quality and in some cases better. Blue Tooth is a one more thing you need to charge up and if it not charged you are fucked. A wired head phone no charging same sound. So how are hey close to being the same. USB-C is not just power bricks. Where have you been? PCs and Macs both use them for data nowadays.

The cable is included for data if anything. Google used to include both an A-C cable along with a C-C cable for data back with the Pixel 1.

Samsung also changed their cables with the S20 from A-C to C-C. So they would be in the same situation if they removed the brick for the S30.

Nonetheless, removing the charger brick is a completely dick move on everybody's part. Fucking cheap fucks.

Lol, this happens all the time with both Samsung and especially Google. In the past 3 months, Google has broken Android Chrome incognito twice. There was a new update and it was freezing when closing out on some sites in incognito. It took 3 months to fix and the fix ended up causing a years old issue to return instead with several sites timing out in incognito. A fucking mess.
