If so it'd be cool to see a future Red Dead partly take place in San Andreas as an early settlement.

Ok, this is a weird but here me out...

RDR and GTA do not take place in the same world, but SOMEHOW both are in the same world as Bully... So there's a RDR+Bully universe AND a GTA+Bully universe

Depends on which GTA you're thinking of.

The world of GTA III/VC/SA/etc is technically a different world than GTA IV/V/Online, even though they're very similar and a number of people/places/things exist in both. The Laslow in GTA V is technically not the same Laslow in Vice City/San Andreas.

It's kind of implied RDR does take place in the same world (or at least a very similar world) as GTA V/Online, because when you make your character in GTA Online, you can pick John Marston as one of your ancestors (which helps determine your appearance). And there are a number of little easter eggs that imply a connection (like Jack Marston apparently eventually writing a book about his father, which you can see in GTA V/O).

It basically comes down to whether or not you assume the easter eggs are just easter eggs, or if they're hinting at the two universes being the same universe. But there's certainly evidence to suggest they are, and nothing that really suggests they can't be, or any official statements from Rockstar that they're not the same world.

Interesting.

On the same note, does Manhunt/Manhunt 2 belong to the same world too? Cause In my mind, James Earl Cash is Niko Bellic's long lost brother :D

Manhunt takes place in Carcer City. Carcer City exists in the GTA universe (it's mentioned in GTA at one point).

Basically, Carcer City is GTA Detroit in the same way that Liberty City is GTA NYC and Vice City is GTA Miami.

LOL yeah they just exchange cars for horses. I often wonder if every individual NFL and NBA stadium are created in Madden and NBA 2K one by one or if they use one model and decorate that with each team's theme and logo.

No they aren't.

There are things that contradict both GTA and Red Dead Redemption (such as mentioning New York and California, or how the nation's history in both series aren't aligned with each other).

They are not in the same continuity.

I don't like this answer, so I'm going to accept PO's response and my head canon is now RDR, GTA, Manhunt, and Bully all taking place in the same reality.

I'm in Chapter 2 of RDR2 and part of me likes the hair mechanics of waiting to grow it out and cut it, and really working for a beard past level 7 if you want it by drinking hair tonics like an addict, but part of me also wishes it had more "video game" esque mechanics and I could just style my hair however whenever (like you know when you go to a barber in other games and you can magically come out with longer hair).

I believe the answer is no. Manhunt on the other hand is connected to GTA.

This. I'm happy you know this.

He's not technically right anyway, because the existence of real cities doesn't automatically prevent the existence of fake ones.

In DC comics, they have cities like Gotham (which is basically just a corrupt NYC - it's literally named after one of NYC's nicknames) and Metropolis (which started out as a sort of fusion of Cleveland and Toronto, but which then kind of evolved into Chicago before kind of turning into NYC as well - which is why you get the famous quote from Denny O'Neil that Metropolis is NYC on the sunniest day in the middle of July, Gotham is NYC in the middle of a miserable November night). You'd assume that in a United States where heroes are adventuring in Metropolis and Gotham and Central City (somewhere in the Midwest) and Star City (sort of a Chicago analogue) and Coast City (basically LA/SF) and a dozen other cities wouldn't HAVE any real cities, because there'd be no room for them.

But NYC and Chicago other real cities still exist in the DC universe as well.

The DC Earth is canonically larger than the real world, which is how they can squeeze in extra cities and countries that don't exist in our world.

So there's no reason why both Liberty City AND NYC can't both exist in the same world. Even if it seems kind of stupid.

But like I said, Rockstar has never explicitly said that any of the games take place in the same universe (or that they don't), so if you want to assume they do, then you can assume they do. Or if you don't like the idea, then they don't and the things they have in common are just easter eggs.

But also like I said, they HAVE said that the "3D" universe (the GTAIII games) and the "HD" universe (GTAIV, V, Online) ARE two different universes. So it's possible that RDR could exist in the GTA V universe but not the GTA III one, or Manhunt and/or Bully could be related to one or the other but not both, or some other combination.
