I wasn't particularly interested in this one before getting a PS4, but it seems to be held in high regard as one the better AAA exclusives. Any advice before I delve in? Did you like it? Not like it? Why?

I went in 100% blind (it was a birthday present and I hadnt even heard of the game before) and absolutely loved it.

My advice is to focus (heh) on getting the animal skins for the inventory size upgrades, as these are really important.

Theres nothing really major to mention beyond that. Have fun, explore, etc.

I loved it. My advice would be to not listen or read any of the vantage points until you have them all. Then read them in order. They should be numbered...

The story (especially the backstory) is really good. The combat is also pretty addictive. Don't hesitate to use traps and tripwires before taking on a group of enemies.

It makes a great first impression and has a lot of cool ideas, but I eventually got bored and dropped it before finishing it, though I don't think I'm the norm in that situation. The combat and story didn't feel engaging enough to keep me playing til the end (particularly the fights against humans and in bandit camps, which are just awful).

That said I think I did get like 3/4 of the way through and I know a lot of people did love it. But I personally wouldn't put it as one of the PS4s must plays.

I didn't like the game much. I got maybe 10 hours into it and the amount of effort it took to kill anything was a turn off

I actually enjoyed that part, tbh. Most had weak spots you had to hit. And I liked that enemies were very different levels. I also remember the first time I fought the giant thunder bird thing... It took some time, but taking it down was awesome. It was also an accident. I thought it was something else at first...

If you are using fast travel, get that pack with unlimited uses, then make sure you never sell it, since it isn't a key item.

It's basically just a standard open world game with a cool setting, nice graphics and fun combat. The main story didn't do much for me but the robots and side quests are all pretty great.

Haha, reminds me of me. I ended up only really using it near the end of the game and basically only for if I needed to go somewhere and then right back to where I had first been.
I liked exploring on foot the most, and usually trying to take not just the direct or straight routes, as I enjoyed finding the hidden lore.

Probably. Though, if you get it at the beginning, it does make saving and moving way easier. Especially since you probably won't have as much money/material earlier on... And over time, the amount you save adds up...

Depends. If you are trying to avoid them anyway (for whatever reason), then you would still miss the shards. Also, AFAIK, you still have to travel to the place first, either way. And normally, I only use it to get back to places fast that I need to get to fast. Like for more supplies or something. Or to go from one side of the map to the very other side or something. Thats me, though. I just dont feel like walking too long a distance. If its a couple towns over, Ill walk it. I still explore. The bag is used when I need it. That being said, I don.this see how having the Golden bag is any different than having the regular ones. The only difference is this one wont run out. It saves no matter what. I mean, whenever you would use the Golden pack is the same place you would use the regular one, as well.. Its just you dont have to use a consumable in the process...

Basically, the materials Id be missing out on by using the Golden pack, I would still have missed out on if I used the regular pack instead, and be down a pack...

Just because you have it doesnt mean you need to constantly use it. But its good to have if you need it...

So far I'd say this game is okay. The story has me intrigued enough to see where it goes, but I think I've been spoiled by playing more recent (or perhaps just better) open world games before this one. The map in this game is way too cluttered and most of the side stuff feels inconsequential so far. Not a bad game by any means, just easier for me to nitpick after playing some other recent open world games.

Idk why, but my brain for some reason has decided the whole dismantling like Lego pieces is kinda horrifying.

Unfortunately I can't explain it.

Well, I liked the game enough that it makes my fifth Platinum trophy! The lore, plot, and world are all good, but I felt the characters were not that memorable or interesting themselves. Perhaps it's because the acting felt stale, especially with a lot of the minor characters. In a AAA mo-cap game, you need good acting to sell the story and world. But overall I did like the game despite my nitpicks throughout this thread. I'll be delving into the Frozen Wilds tomorrow and looking forward to the sequel!

Just completed the Frozen Wilds and I think the story there improved upon the base story. Definitely feels like there's a bigger story to be told here and they've laid solid groundwork for future entries, so I'm looking forward to see where the series goes from here!

I have it but only played for a few days. It was way better than I expected it to be! The story was really cool too. I didn't get around to finishing it like many other games I own (see other thread about 'drowning in a sea of games')

I THINK I got past the part where she had to do the mission where you have to take down the panther robot that circles the burning village. Again it's been a very long time though.
