^Oh ok, sure I'll get him next round. For the record I'm purposefully not maining anyone right now just to make this whole thing less intense for me, it's nice not worrying about the contest so much. The current plan is to just throw saves at characters I like when I'm here and they need it, and Squall always gets a bunch of saves before the rush so I haven't needed to help him yet. I don't plan to just let him rot or anything.

Best comic so far imo Lea, also I don't think I've ever seen what Edea looked like before. Not what I was picturing in my head.

i don't really agree with Yuffie's theme being anything special and idk Emet's, but Kefka and Seymour definitely have the two best FF songs that you could associate with a specific character. not their official character themes, though, the battles. Garnet's theme is really good, too.

Yuffie's theme is so bouncy and fun! It's underrated imo. I haven't played Shadowbringers but I figure the final boss theme counts as Emet's the same way Dancing Mad or Seymour's boss theme does for them, and that theme is great. (So is Tifa's) Red has his own specific theme independent of Cosmo Canyon, it's just basically a worse version of CC though imo.

Seymour's actual theme is underrated imo. The remaster version with the drums adds a real ominous and powerful feeling to the theme, rather than it just being creepy.

Yeah I think Tidus's Theme is kind of weak personally and agree with Xuxon on Yuffie's...

Auron > Seymour > Lulu as top 3 character themes in FFX imo. And the absolute banger (in the original OST only) that is "Challenge", I know it plays in multiple boss battles but that'll always be the "other" Seymour theme for me... even moreso than the actual "Seymour Battle".

FF7 character theme rankings.... not counting the "Main Theme" as Cloud's as that's too easy...

Aerith > Cid > Cait Sith > Vincent (Nightmare Begins) top four. Listening now and forgot how much I dig Cait Sith's.

(edit: ok Tifa's theme is also so good, damn it.... maybe 4th instead of Vincent's!!)

Theres another track on Spotify called Seymours theme, but its just a lighter reprisal of ambition, I think it plays in the scenes foreshadowing ambition.

Best theme is Ultimecias btw, but VIII in general has excellent music. Probably Uemastsus finest work

Cait Sith's theme goes OFF. Another super underrated jazzy jam. I associate Challenge with Yunalesca more than Seymour personally.

VIII has no music specifically named for a character (except Julia), but most people probably count Machine Gun for Laguna and that is obv top tier. This is one area where villains have an advantage across the series though.

Excellent. I don't expect being a full time f5er or trading, just whatever support you're capable of giving. I thought you might peace out of the contest entirely so just looking out at the end of rounds is cool.

It is criminal how this gets ignored next to OWA.

But... it just doesn't have the "epic" feel of a final (or near-final) boss battle theme, I think is the problem. And following Jenova Absolute which does have that feel to it.

Still a great song regardless.

I think OWA deserves its standout status, but the other tunes are still great

"Decimation" nowadays means vast destruction, but its origin comes from a form of Roman military discipline in which, quote, "every tenth man in a group was executed by members of his cohort."

10%, a decimation.

But what if it's just 10% who survived, when 90% are gone? Are the survivors, the ones left behind, the decimated?

We've lost so much. 8 days left, with each day resulting in exponentially more heartbreak, and the 2-day finals thereafter... but it's almost over.



It's been a long and brutal road, we're in the home stretch now. Characters who were on the cusp of elimination 21, 30, 37 rounds ago... they're all still here. What could have been?

Top 10 Ramza?
Lightning repeat run?
Dunkmaster Nation?
"Ultimate goat" Eiko?

...we'll leave questions like that to the philosophers.

Reminder that Kefka finished 4th and Edward 2nd last year. Can any of the below, with distant near-eliminations, make a similar deep run or even win? We'll find out soon enough.

-Heavy favourites Squall and Kefka avoiding any close calls so far, can they maintain it to the final 3? (note that 2 of the final 3 last year fit that bill)
-Despite all those close calls, in that last stretch, Tidus was teflon-y insofar as never being the final safe in a round... until he was the final unsafe
-Yuffie drops after 73 days, falling just shy of Rydia's 74 days from last year (Day 18 - 92)

And looking ahead the rest of the way, of the top 10 last year, the snipes of the final 8 rounds were divvied up amongst only three characters: Edward 4, Kefka 2, Aerith 2. We'll see if there's a character or two who can similarly pile up the saves to keep enduring or if things will be more spread out this year, I guess.

You could also feel it in the air even back then, the zeitgeist... where it felt like things would culminate... could it still happen? Could we really end with that stacked a final? Two long-suffering and intensely deserving finalists battling it out for the title?

Serious question: what happens if the finals vote is tied after 48 hours? Is there overtime, a full finals re-run, or are they considered truly tied & dual champions for XXII?

If Squall and Kefka both make it that probably is the best case scenario imo, even if an exact vote tie is probably impossible, would still be great... overall the second-best case scenario.

Have more "Top 5 commentary" but we'll save that for when we get there, I guess...

Dagger seems to be on a really quiet run, she's the least talked about of the top 10 round to round I think but she's always safe early and without controversy. I'd assume that is good for her but maybe it's just the default IX vote and she'll peak soon idk.

I see she had a consecutive 4th/3rd way back and she's currently coming off of a 16th/15th finish so maybe she's been gearing up for something! (Also lol at Squall finishing 8th in 3 of the 4 past contests, I guess that'll be the deciding round for him this year)
