Convalescent plasma (plasma from people that have recovered from it) is already being collected in many places to use to treat patients that are infected with Covid, since it helps to boost the immune system's response to it, but simply injecting antibodies doesn't prompt the body to produce its own and therefore doesn't confer long-term immunity. Trump's plasma would be no different from anyone else's in that regard, so while he could certainly donate it to contribute to those treatments, he would not be able to donate enough to treat all covid patients (if he could, literally any other recovered covid patient also could and he therefore wouldn't need to), nor is there any reason to suspect that his blood would somehow be the special one that allows a vaccine to be developed. I know this is just meant to be a "look at us totally owning the libs" post, and not something with any actual degree of scientific accuracy, but the utter failure to understand anything about basic immunology or medicine just makes it kind of sad and desperate, rather than clever or funny. 2/10, good job choosing a fitting picture, but no further redeeming qualities. --- This is my signature. Dunno how the ARC is doing it, but Canadian Blood Services require people to be symptom free for four weeks before donating because that maximizes the amount of antibodies in the plasma. That means Trump won't be eligible to donate convalescent plasma until at least a couple weeks after the election, and potentially more if he takes longer to recover. After that point, it will be possible, but only if he decides to donate (he doesn't exactly strike me as the type to do so except as a photo op), and even then he'd be such a tiny percentage of donors and his donation would be used to treat such a tiny percentage of patients that that likelihood isn't exactly significant to fixate on as an example of "owning the libs." --- This is my signature.
