Thanh Nguyen posted about his mothers incident on Instagram, which occurred on 22 September. Nguyen described how his brother was helping their mother carry groceries when a thug attacked her. My brother was carrying groceries and heard two thugs and saw my mom unconscious on the floor, my brother saw the guy run down Market and chased him down the block towards Market street, Nguyen said. The attacker then tried to escape but Nguyens brother chased him. The guy tried hopping onto the K train on Market to escape, but my brother chased him off the train and down Market street towards Embarcadero, he said. However, a group of men were waiting around the corner and and attacked his brother. As they were running this scum ran into a group of guys just hanging at the corner; and when he approached one of the guys sucker punched him almost knocking him out, Nguyen said. He was able to pull himself together and run back to my mom as she was getting on the ambulence because he isnt stupid enough to just get jumped by 5-8 guys. Nguyen then detailed his mothers injuries. After a few days my mom finally came home CONCIOUS, but with fractures on her face, bruises everywhere, body in pain, cant look up or down, cant talk normally, her favorite glasses shattered, and our hearts broken, he said. Weve lived in the same neighborhood for YEARS and never had anything like this happen to us. Even with Covid19 and the racist shit you hear on the news we kept telling her not to go out! Despite that she was comfortable enough to leave the house for appointments and other important matters regardless because we are used to the neighborhood. I was in the military, I have no criminal history and I live in TN so i'm assuming it will be easy. Declaring otherwise is deflecting from the reality that Asian Americans have had to deal with their own share of being victimized for years by racists from all sides and colors. Black vs Asian hate crimes have been a thing for decades... Trump did not "embolden" that violent asshole to commit a hate crime. He assaulted the Asian woman because he is racist towards Asian people. With or without Trump involved, the assailant is STILL a racist.
