Does being bipolar cause you to see yourself doing something but unable to stop... or waking up doing something you werent consciously wanting to do?

That sounds almost like a fugue state or maybe DID.

That's more DID or Schizoid related.

Bipolar is more like you're happy as a clam one day and the next you throw your roommate out because the MURDERED YOUR GARDEN!!!! MIIIIIIIKE!!!!!!!

Okay DID and schizoid were good reads but idk.

Context: Me and some friends were talking to another social worker friend of ours. One of my friends was explaining that when they cheated on their GF they were walking towards the girls home but couldnt stop. It was like they were along for the ride. And then they woke up half way through sex and left in regret.

Our social worker friend said that that sounds like hes bipolar. But Ive never heard of that before. Ive heard of high sex drive in those people but never the waking up to something they didnt realize was happening.

autopilot? that's common in autism spectrum disorders... I get that all the time, and have been complaining about it quite a lot these last few weeks

The lack of impulse control and sexual promiscuity definitely sounds like a manic episode.

But the abrupt "waking up" sounds like something different. Maybe they were just unwilling to accept that they had cheated?

That sounds nothing like bipolar disorder.

That's more Hollywood bipolar, honestly (and what you're describing is more mood swings than it is bipolar anyway).

In real life, the manic phase of bipolar is more like being in the middle of a panic attack where you're thinking so fast and intensely you can barely focus your thoughts, while the depressive phases are like the most crushing helplessness and flu fatigue you've ever felt just pushing down on you and making it hard to breathe.

Ultimately, it's all a matter of degrees, but full-on powerful bipolar can make it almost impossible to function as a human being.

Bipolar Type 2 here..

In my case this is true..
It's like looking out of a glass window inside yourself and banging on it when your body says things to others that you really don't want to say..

The "fun" parts are when bipolar combined with the other diagnoses piles me up with stress and I finally have a psychosis and/or a complete blackout with memory loss..

I had one yesterday :
I was up late, testing out some old games I got for my 16th wedding anniversity (Super R-Type, R-Type 3, Holy Diver and Metal Storm).. and I started playing Metal Storm, decided I was gonna beat it (and I did), and then was gonna do a quick playthrough of Probotector 2 (Super C) before going to sleep..

...and suddenly I wake up in bed, with no memory of what happened..
Apperantly accordind to my wife, I was up all night waaaay into the morning playing nes games and recording my playthroughs with commentary XP
When she came upstairs to see what all the noise was she said I was all "ssshhhhh I'm streaming! We're gonna make lots of money this way"
And then she told me that a couple of hours later I ran down the stars, threw up, went back up the stairs and finally succumbed to fatigue and fell asleep in the chair while I was playing Shadowgate, she put a blanket over me, turned everything off and she went back to bed..

I don't know when I went downstairs to bed, but when I woke up I knew right away that I've had another episode..
Only this time my wife thought I was pretty funny..

I found several hours of videorecordings of me playing and commenting and it was horrible to watch and listen to, irradical and slurred speech, awful gameplay..
I deleted all the videos, because I don't want to see myself like that..

I love being Bipolar ^_^
