I never understood how Canto Bight qualified for this. It's not a scene, it's an entire subplot of the movie.

1 scene vs 1 third of an entire movie

If you take the scenes at face value and judge them based on their actual merits, Canto Bight is a fun sequence with plenty of charm and a point to make (when two sides fight, the weapons dealers rake in the benefits).

The scene about sand has "a point" to make, too, but it's so clumsy and awkward that it's lost in the mountain of cheese it was carved out of.

The actors for Padme and Anakin just had zero chemistry, and Hayden was a terrible pick for the role. That scene, all of their scenes just felt flat.

That's not true. Lucas was a terrible writer/director, it wasn't Hayden's fault. It's up to the director to guide the actor and get a good take, but it's like he just took the first read of every line and put it in the movie.

You have a point.

That said, if I'd done it the other way, there probably would have been at least ten individual moments from the sequence in the contest that I wouldn't be able to find clips of. I wasn't thinking about that when I included it all as one entry, but it does make things cleaner this way.

Then again, those individual parts probably deserve to live and die on their merits...

Well Canto is very in your face with it's problems.

Plus if you really strain yourself you can imagine the sand line working better with different actors and a different director. That like could almost work if Anakin was supposed to be shy and awkward but in a cute innocent way and not the weird way Hayden plays him.

Plus nostalgia glasses get sand some points.

Still I agree sand is worse.
