So yeah I might want to upgrade my Mp3 player. I currently have a FiioX2 second gen, and it works great. However the battery life is not as great as it once was and the screen is cracked.

What's out there these days? I liked my Fiio despite the fact it's quirky. I have owned Cowon players in the past and I've liked those(D3, M3 from a while back). The d3 was cool because it could use the internet, but I am not looking for that. Just focus on the music.

literally just use an old phone

there's next to no point in using a dedicated mp3 player anymore, especially since they all just run android these days, or ios if you get an ipod.

go to Walmart, buy a $40 android phone, turn airplane mode on, and you essentially just saved yourself $200 from buying a new fiio that's just the exact same thing.

don't get it twisted, i loved the iPod Pro, but the one i had that i spent 6 years dialing in to be literally perfect on Shuffle died 2 weeks after the model was discontinued as if they sent out a kill signal.

second and last Apple product i ever bought.

best goddamned Ipod ever made.

i have 350GB of audio. Music. the HHGG radio plays. old standup. had my shuffle finally dialed in where 2-4 songs would play, and a standup bit or 2 would cut in where commercial, terrestrial radio would have had 5 minutes of commercials. regardless of my mood, i rarely if ever had to hit next.

now i'm in a podcast dystopian hellscape across multiple networks when back in the day an RSS feed could get me thru a day without "changing the channel" 8 times a day...te podcast monetization drive has split networks as badly as video content is spread out across services now.

if i want music, i need to either sit thru ads for twice as long as the song, and the app has to be front-and-center, or i can give a streaming service a list of bands...and then hear every band that sounds like them except actually them with ads as thick as they are on terrestrial radio.

at least with podcasts, i can skip the first 8 or last 8 minutes 30 seconds at a time to avoid ads. i still have options to jump midroll reads and donation segments.

but the goddamned iPod Classic with the beefy drive was a goddamned gem. hell, i watched a half dozen anime series on them on the way to bed for nights with mine for like 5 years.

36 would double the space i have to work with that's 10% of what i need. I'm looking at small 500GB M2 drives to put into my Larkbox just to have all 350GB of my collection on a device the size of a cupcake.

I have an x3 Gen 2 with a 400gb card. Works fine for me

Brotip: They're not called MP3 players anymore, since MP3 has become an extremely outdated, worthless file compared to the lossless audio with FLAC and lossless WAV, etc.
They're simply called "Digital music player" or "Digital audio player" so be sure to search that on Amazon or w/e

I've always called them that however you are correct. and i prefer higher audio files like flac if i can get them myself.

iPod classic is a terrible choice in this day and age. If it isn't a 100% drag and drop transfer interface, I don't want it.

though I haven't used an ipod since the early 2010s so I could be wrong about Itunes or some other workaround as a requirement to transfer files.
