We're just starting to get most of the benefits in the past 5.6 decades or so. I'm cool with police, but I'm not going to voluntarily interact with them if I can avoid it unless there is a surefire risk to public safety going on that doesn't involve me. I'm pretty much always going to have to be extra careful in public because people will call the cops on me for dumb reasons. There will always be people who assume I don't belong wherever I am and I may have to go out of my way to prove I'm not trespassing/stealing/otherwise up to no good.
