I did and I still keep them on my mantle. Seems like a lot of people have a problem with them but I don't see anything wrong with them

I got a "medal" in high school for doing well in one of my language classes, also probably helped that I filled one of my empty blocks to be a teacher's assistant for that teacher >_>. IDK if that counts.

Yeah. One from cross country back in middle school. Tossed it and went on to become a better athlete and actually win some meets the next few years.

and did actually winning in some regional high school competition really seem that much more meaningful? does it still in retrospect?

Trophies, of course not. Only participation things I got were maybe ribbon things and that was for things that didnt get scored or whatever. I was usually getting legit trophies so I dont even know if they had participation trophies, I dont even know if that was a thing.

Tons, I was on a lot of teams as a kid. I threw them all away ages ago

High school diplomas
Easy majors like business and social sciences

All will fall on your lap for participating

One of the weirdest elements of our all encompassing culture war is how triggering these things were. They are little tokens meant to make children feel good and provide memories and yet they are treated like the death of western civilization. I never actually got any, but it would have been great if I did.

There are two sides of the coin here

If little jimmy never got a participation trophy, he may not have had the confidence to keep going, keep training, and work hard to become the greatest at whatever it was he got the trophy for

but

Little fucking timmy over here gets participation trophys, and it inflates his ego, he doesn't put in the work, doesn't train, keeps getting torphys, and now has an inflated sense of self-worth. He works at a grocery store as a bagger thinking everyday that if he were fired, the business would likely go under.

Yes, everytime I play a Playstation game.

I just don't understand the mindset at all when no money is on the line. All any trophy does in that case is remind you of things and collect dust

Idk I always thought of them as clutter. I probably never interacted with or acknowledged them beyond the days I got em. Somewhere down the line I just tossed em for space

rog0 have you ever won an award that wasn't a participation trophy? I think there is a difference between winning the lombardi trophy, and getting a superbowl ring as the water boy

yeah I guess its the same exact thing

From soccer. That have been playing like 1989-1996. Tossed em all recently when my mom asked if I wanted them. I kept any trophy with a place on it (we had lots of tournaments and a kid that played well would get to keep that trophy). And Ive got some individual trophies and awards I kept.

I would definitely sell that super bowl ring as soon as possible if I was a water boy

I believe (according to a quick search) each team gets 150 to distribute

I got one in Disgaea 4 for watching the animated opening

That said I think I'd personally be more likely to keep a participation super bowl ring than say a 1st place trophy from a regional youth baseball team

Idk, the prestige differential seems more important than the personal contribution though I suppose you could get a trophy as a bad individual player too

I talk a lot of shit rog0. I'd probably love my superbowl ring for a while, then decide I'd rather have a new guitar and sell it. But not before I showed everyone my superbowl ring and lied about how I caught a pass in the 4th quarter

Hmm. Likely no, but it has helped me stay in better shape than everyone else I know through the years. Winning those meets back then did instill some more confidence as well, seeing as I had none back then.
