True, Minwu was on the verge of elimination for ages and now never seems to be in danger so who knows what will happen with Kain. What were your other predictions again? Kefka, Seymour, someone from ff7 right? Those could still happen.

Alternatively it'd be those 5 + some random (joke or non-joke) character in the Top 6. Which still isn't off the table yet, I guess.

Haven't given that any thought really but the only revision that pops out is "one FF4" becoming "one of Minwu/Cecil/Kain" (FYI Minwu finished 3rd place in XIX, his debut contest... and his 2nd snipe was also back on Day 18 so was certainly a non-factor back then).

Forgetting the top 5, I imagine people can feel the zeitgeist of the contest and the direction we're heading though...

Quina/Gau would be the best final since *checks notes* ...Reno/Kuja? Probably not, but it'd be the first final since then where I'd consider pushing both characters.

I can't imagine not getting the full party in Part 2.

Ideally it hits the end of disc 1, but I could also see them wanting to end on Temple of the Ancients and cliffhang.

Oh I didn't know the Ba'gamnan thing was serious, all I remember is him being a minor antagonist of little consequence. I thought Edea was a legit character push from the Bravely fans (It took me an embarrassingly long time to realise that people were not saving Sorceress Edea >_>), and I hadn't thought of Jessie as a joke at all.

Leblanc is a weird case where she's treated as a joke ingame but she's also a legit character with a full personality, story relevance, an arc and everything, so I can see it both ways.

Not exactly sure what you mean by "serious" or "our past." I at least am saving Edea because I actually like her and BD, and I'm pretty sure Burke's the same way.

The serious statement is whether you genuinely like her. If you do, then thats neat. The past was just some of the controversial stuff over the last couple of contests (lawyerings and the disappearance that led to Red missing top five last year)

He's not comic relief in the game he's from and he doesn't have a meme status rally pushing him along, so yeah, I can assure you the run is based on legitimate interest in him doing well. You sort of have to have one or the other to be a "joke" in SMFFFC (or both, but that's rare).

Burke's dumbass fake lawyerings and shit (plus the one time he actually did find a lawyering... on himself) make me look bad. That's one of the things I don't like about his "leaking" our relationship a couple years ago (but I suppose that it would have wound up being revealed by now anyway.)

The Red thing last year was me being a drunken idiot, yes, but it's not "a history" or whatever it gets made out to be.

On the topic of joke characters, I don't think Edea will get any kind of a joke push, especially with it likely being her last year and most people just wanting her gone at this point. Maybe she gets dragged a few rounds to take out the actual strong characters, but she's not a top 10 threat. (To be fair, it may not be meme support she needs, as her true strength this year is completely unknown. She's had only three saves that aren't from Burke, me, or a trade, but that might be because she's been implicitly covered by the two of us all contest.) If a joke makes it deep it's going to be the Dunkmaster (or possibly a serious Bagamnan/Nation push turning into a joke run late in the contest.)

Oh, and my predicted final five at the moment is Cecil, Squall, Seymour, an FF7, and a filler character (Kefka and Cid being the frontrunners for that spot.)

no i totally agree. Kefka needs to be the last VI standing to become the super strong top 5 lock everyone's anticipating, but i kinda doubt that happens with Celes still in and mnk fully on Locke. they might all make the top 20 still, but i don't see a path to top 10 for Kefka.

I think Kefka might outlast Locke even without GMUN on him due to late-round casual support, but you never know in this contest; one round can turn the contest on it's head. We just had Lightning go out the first time she was in any kind of serious danger.

charon covered it but I would say, a character being saved as a meme (rather than any enjoyment/appreciation for the character and/or the game they come from) would be a joke.

No character left is a joke imo, everyone deserves to be here.

But.

Let's say, hypothetically, knowing that this is Jessie's debut year, and Reno was propelled to victory in his debut via a Cloud/Reno yaoi picture, somebody who likes Jessie tries to mimic that success and posts a Tifa/Jessie yuri picture. They try to generate success for both of them but, like Reno was the real successor in his year, only Jessie benefits.

Maybe more pics spin off from that. Maybe there's a Jessie comic series that develops after (some or all) remaining eliminations, featuring the perennially-thirsty Jessie who's horny for every eliminated character.

Then people who never played Remake (where she was GENUINELY FANTASTIC in), hell maybe never even played original FF7 or even liked it, start saving Jessie just for the meme. And then Jessie wins in her debut year and is quickly forgotten thereafter, just another footnote character in contest lore.

Jessie would be a joke in that situation.

I think Seymour will make the finals, but I don't know who else will be there with him.

I've been expecting Locke to die before Kefka. He's been getting through so far with 1-2 casual votes, but those always come on a whim and you can't necessarily rely on them coming every day. Pokewars traded for him once, but he doesn't always even get a save in every round. Hopefully he'll pick up a consistent second backer as the field dwindles.

Not only was Gilded saving him for a meme but he never even played FFTA, so that is pretty funny. But I take Shaduln and Bane's support as being legit? They're the ones putting in the work for that character.

I think Shad's support is kinda legit and everyone else is just saving him because they are friends with Shad.
