Don't be an asshole to the neighbors you share a wall with.
You want some big ass sound system, buy or rent a house w/ that six figure income you claim to have.

If you don't have kids or close neighbors go for it.

I have a setup with a sub cabinet but it's basically useless since having kids. Even with the sub turned off its too loud when the kids are sleeping. Barely turn it on these days, but it sounds awesome when I do.

Playing games like Hellblade it can make a world of difference

Only if you have very good soundproofing to go along with it.

I wouldn't mind if my neighbors had one as long as if it's off until 10:00 PM and not on before 7 AM.. On the flip side, people who want not not hear others shouldn't live in an apartment.

I mean I won't be playing it at 2 AM and I don't want a big ass sound system. Probably won't use it before 8 or after 10, or normal working hours. Just a small 5.1 system. I don't see a reason to be in a house, sounds like a waste of money.

just don't get a subwoofer and it's really not that different from using TV speakers.

The one you're looking at...idk, that's a lot.
I'd say go for it but keep the bass low. I sleep in and go to bed early, so I personally wouldn't have to worry about bothering people if I had bass going.
Just don't be a jerk like others are saying.

Id actually be good with that. I have some open back headphones for my guitar because I noticed the bass frequencies were a bit much when walking down the hall. Im more interested in the surround effect for game immersion than anything else, but my girlfriend watches me play games so I dont want to use headphones.

Honestly, surround sound isn't as much as an issue as that no one knows how to use the equalizer properly to achieve that quality sound in such a small cramped space.

Are you suggesting people live in apartments because they want to hear their neighbors? Because this is one of the most astronomically stupid things I've ever read.

They could also have other reasons. Such as not finding a place they wanted, or being close to work. Either way, people dont move into apartment because they want to hear other people. A decent human being knows that and try to respect that. Buying a surround system in an apartment is a dick move. And you know that...

I beg to differ. My dad sets up microphones and everything to adjust to his seating. I hope to do similar things in a few years as my place gets bigger

True most apartment dwellers have the courtesy to not have surround sound system in their home.

They just roll up in their cars with their woofers rattling at 3am when they went to listen and not disturb anyone.

Sure, there are true audiophiles who'll go through such lengths for that perfect sound, ...but my point is, there are those who'd buy a surround sound system and never know how to truly use it properly.

Surround sound doesn't mean louder, it just means atmospheric. It really wouldn't be any different than the standard speakers, except for maybe the sub. It's a definite yay. Great sound is as big a game changer as HD.
