I'm not certain if it technically fits the description, but I've always understood conspiracy theories to be false as them being based in reality would fail to make it a conspiracy theory. Perhaps I've just been misunderstanding the term.

From what I remember following the case (please correct me if I'm wrong) we know Russia made attempts to interfere in our election through social media ads and fake FB accounts in comments sections and sharing divisive rhetoric in attempts to go viral and cause further social division among US citizens. It is also believed that Russia viewed a Trump residency as largely advantageous so much as it causes division, but they weren't exactly worried about a Hilary presidency as they could still cause issues with that.

Like we can reasonably guess that Trump and Russia were willing to communicate, but it is uncertain as to what if anything was actually shared between parties. It also seems reasonable to guess that Russia ultimately didn't need anything from Trump to interfere.

Then there is the fact of the obvious obstruction of justice that Trump engaged in throughout the investigation.

Is it only among hardcore Trumpers that people are this referred to as a conspiracy theory? There was a guest on 538 a couple months ago that used the whole Russiagate deal to show that liberals believe in conspiracy theories just as conservatives do. It kind of came off like he was really trying to force the whole both sides narrative.

It's just weird to look back on all of this Russia stuff. There has been so many other news stories from Trump getting impeached for something else to covid and riots. It seems so insignificant compared to all of that.

It's because people don't believe the evidence that Russia did, does and will continue to do what they do. They think it's a conspiracy by "liberals" when it's literally international psychological warfare. And it's working pretty damn well apparently.
