Immediately all the characters are like "ugh you're such a bother protagonist, why did we have to get stuck with you" it's like I get it he's seen as a troublemaker "delinquent" japanese anime archetype.

Feels like an inverse of p4 where everyone loved protagonist-san but I'm sure in a couple of months everyone will be eating out of the palm of my hand

His delinquent status wouldve gone over better for overseas audiences if they had translated it to pedophile instead. Just pretend that's what they're saying and everyone's revulsion towards him will make more sense.

personally, I really disliked what I played of the original Persona 5 (about 80 hours), and idk if Royal fixed those issues - story and characters that I didn't care about, stale gameplay, and only being able to do one or two activities a day

Its almost like Fall Guys isnt a 120 hour RPG and instead is a game where you can see nearly everything it has to offer in 10-20 minutes

Not a "gotcha" bro

He said 120 hour game, fall guys is online multiplayer and >120 hours

Why dont you give me stats on people who hated persona 5 during the first 10 minutes and if they ended up liking it.

Lol gross that's pretty tasteless XD

I just think it's funny that this concept is a whole thing in Japan (at least according to japanese anime) when this is the same place that's rumored to be controlled by yakuza, the delinquentest of delinquents, in every aspect from police force to businesses to even legal system sometimes.

i made it 66 hours.

personally if you're NOT into anime then it's really tedious and it was designed to be tedious like the slow ass day/calendar transition scene looping over and over and over again for style points.

i made it through newly released P4 on PC because it was a much swifter game.

They think enough bad things about him to be revulsed anyway. You hear all kinds of rumors early in the game about just how bad of a dude Joker is.

for me, I really enjoyed Personas 3 and 4 (and SMT Nocturne), so I stuck with P5 because I really wanted to give it a real chance.

maybe it's because I'm older, or maybe it's because of how I felt about the game's quality, but I just wasn't digging it.

Its one of the best JRPGs Ive ever played but its character writing pales in comparison to Persona 3

I don't know if I loved persona 3 fes because it has better writing or because I played it when I was more than 10 years younger and more able to relate to the high school setting (almost college like with the living in dorms and stuff thing. But the persona games seem to remain high school setting since apparently someone once said that supposedly high school is considered the "golden years" in japan)

But between 3 and 4, 3 is the only one that I've replayed (fes and p3p female) and still liked, while I found myself disliking golden the more I played it, a combination of being bored by the end and also cringed out by the way the female characters all worship the protagonist and devolve into the same personality of submissive shy heartstruck lover.

This is kind of what I'm feeling. I don't know if I have it in me to play this kind of game again. They took too long to release P5 after P4, and while I was initially excited for it 5 years ago, it took me a while to finally get around to it and now that I have I definitely feel too old for the setting.

We used to joke about how anime and jrpgs had the 30something year old characters be retired veterans ready to leave the job to the new cast of 17 year olds, but now that we actually are 30somethings it no longer seems as funny >__>

Persona feels like a franchise that becomes less interesting as you get older. As a teenager, I loved P3 and P4 because I had tons of free time and I was also of that high school age at the time. I enjoyed Persona 5 in 2017 but not as much as the other games partially due to the game's writing but also due to the fact that I'm a little older now so high school shenanigans doesn't really do it for me anymore. I've been playing P5R this year and while it's still an enjoyable experience, I'm beginning to like less and less of the franchise. Really over the high school setting and over the huge time commitment these game require.

I just don't have it in me to play 100+ hour JRPGs anymore unless I'm really enjoying the game. Final Fantasy VII Remake was perfect at around 30-40 hours to complete the game. If Persona decided to move to a college or office setting, I'd love that but it's never going to happen.

Same here. I want to note I came into the series with Revelations. Got it like Summer 01 and then did Eternal Punishment soon after. Loved them.

I got 3 right when it was new and loved it. Got 4 and I liked it well enough. A little too bright but ok it was good.

I got 5 and lost interest really fast.

I mean, is there a reason to play any game if you're not enjoying it?

Thing is I still like jrpgs as far as only the top tier ones go. Played FF 12 Zodiac Age during the lockdown and really enjoyed it, flaws and all. The Ivalice setting certainly is preferable to the high school setting though so that one's obvious.

I've also got a number of Ys games to play that I'm excited about although those are action rpgs so probably don't count.

Oh and I (finally) played Tales of Vesperia this year, after a decade of waiting for it to release outside of japan. Fun gameplay, ok characters, super weak story, but again action rpg so not a 1:1 comparison.

I watched somebody else play Persona 5 at first and didn't immediately take to it. Anime isn't my thing, the style was definitely different, I wasn't necessarily interested in the ways of spending time/building social links... but it grew on me just enough to consider giving it a try. I haven't been into new games at all in many years... when looking for a game, I usually just poke around for older JRPGs I've missed.

Long story short, FF7 was my favorite game for ~20 years and now P5R is.

come to think of it, if they really wanted to go that route, they could easily have had the man force that woman to testify that Joker had sexually assaulted her.

wouldve made localizing the Kamoshida arc a bit...interesting tho >_>
