Oh yay a passive aggressive mod. Many of these types of games tend to be co-op online only affairs.

Roguelikes? Ive never played an online-only one. Never heard of one either.

This genre (and especially rougelites, which this game is because theres character upgrades you carry between playthroughs) is usually built around your personal and characters progress.

Played the hell (har.) out of it this weekend on the switch

Currently getting beaten by the act 3 boss, reached him a handful of times. I got the gladiator to very low health and then he started summoning bullshit zeus bolts. I think I need to focus Minotaur first and just dodge a bunch, like an isometric O&S insead of just going crazy with AoE+doom and killing at the same time. It's a little repetitive to go through the baby-punching of act 1 and wish I could just warp into the start of act 2 with a handful of boons.

Gameplay is a blast. It's binding of isaac meets Bastion. Fiddling with aspects for the weapons for their different playstyles; and I just realized that I can toggle the black mirror for the "green half" of boons which definitely opens up what gets leveled, but at a glance I'll be like 80/20 dark/green buffs.

Desa feather dust has saved my bacon many times, but I'm getting much better with frantically dashing all the time and will be opting for different keepsakes soon, I think. Maybe start with Charon's coins in act 1 then pick up something new. Sisyphus's keepsake looks like a cool gimmick

Edit: Multiplayer hades would be far too chaotic for me, lol

Yeah the way to fight that boss feels like you fight Asterius first because he is more dangerous and you dont want to deal with Theseus calling a god on your ass while the Minotaur is out. Plus that shield is annoying. Btw, interesting facet of the fight is that the god he calls will be one that hasnt given you a boon yet.

Its weird because area 1 tries to ease you into boss encounters being different but area 2 is always the same boss...

Yeah, I still haven't beaten the third world bosses, but I've been very close a few times. I probably could have done it by now had I realized you to buy a call in order to use one. I'd been playing the game without the whole time because I thought they were just glitched and didn't work. Deflect is ridiculous by the way. Easily the best ability, especially when you have it tied to dash with multiple dashes.

Definitely switch to the ability that heals you on Darkness pickup at the mirror, it helps a lot with keeping Zag healthy instead of the 3 health between rooms. Combined with the 3 Diamond purchase of +5 max health on Darkness pickup it goes a long way to making you tankier, while incentivizing picking up more Darkness for the mirror (I think Im going to invest in one of the death defy skills but Im not sure which is better)

The nice thing about the shield is it completely nullifies hits from the front when youre charging an attack

It also appears to have the most knockback, so you can get wall pin/cornered bonus damage on enemies

Really? Oof. It does almost no damage, and it's really slow as well. Maybe it's just not my thing then. I mostly use the bow and the twin fists since they're both pretty safe options with high damage.

I played Dead Cells. is this like Dead Cells?
Yes and no. So Dead Cells is one of the games I've played the most in recent years, and I like it a lot because of its tight gameplay, good tempo, nice variety, and reasonable difficulty curve.
Another game that I enjoyed a lot that kind of checks those boxes (although the difficulty kinda flattens out earlier) is Wizard of Legend. That one is top down, but with a similar idea. You have a dash, melee spell, and then a bunch of other spells with longer cooldown, and you can get new spells or upgrade them or get other item upgrades as you go along. Think Binding of Isaac but less twin stick shooter and more just top-down action in general. A lot larger variety than Dead Cells, but shorter and easier.

I see Hades as a mix of the two. Gameplay I would say is best described as high-paced Bastion. If that doesn't tell you anything, just look at a gameplay video. It's isometric but similar to what I described with Wizard of Legend. Less variety in terms of weapons/attacks, but instead they can be tweaked a lot more with passive effects, builds etc. This game borrows a bit more from deck builders like Slay the Spire, in that you usually pick your way forward between two options, and those options give you different buffs/rewards. So you very deliberately build your character each run. Ugh IDK if I'm making any sense. But I like it, maybe even more than Dead Cells, and a big reason for that is that the gameplay feels good and tight and fair. And the variety is interesting.

I like it cause I can do damage from far away without having to aim. Plus the blocking of attacks is always a plus, especially with bosses or in those timed rooms

It just suits my playstyle, idk

I really like the shield if you can get the Doom boon on the special attack. Then you can apply good damage from far away pretty safely. It is probably my favorite kind of build right now, Doom on ranged specials like the bow, spear and shield.

My best run was with the shield, got a boon that allowed the shield rush to do +200% damage to enemy armor and another that allowed the shield rush to charge almost instantly, so I was just flying all over the place wrecking shit. On top of that, I got a bunch of zeus boons that caused every attack to shoot out a lighting chain all over the place, and each time an electrified enemy attacked they took like 100 something damage because of a legendary boon. Fun run.

The 3rd floor bosses are the hardest for me. Part of it is because the Minotaur's hitboxes feel a little unclear some times, and I feel if you get hit you get a moment of lag or input delay, which can cause Perseus to hit you with his spear. Also, Perseus's second phase is super random, depending on which god he calls.

It's good. I think I like the worldbuilding/level art, and dialog between everybody a bit more than the game itself

I got lucky with an absolutely beast combination on my first hour of playing overall, which put me on a mad dash. I ran through Spear and Minotaur on my first try but died to poison due to sloppy panic dodging. I recovered +3 health on every swing, had absurd bonuses to my main weapon including +400% Armor Piercing, and an AoE Dodge at LVL 5 with Ares Blade Clouds.

It was bonkers. Bumrush anything, gas bomb special to daze everyone, blend dodge and heal like a nuclear reactor.

Unlike Isaac, you unlock things that make future runs easier permanently. By the end you have 4 lives and a bunch of stuff to make life easier. There's also a fairly comon event in the later areas of the game that restores all your lives, should you need it.

I got to Hades for the first time this morning. Ran a spear/caster build where the spear special was upgraded to have this chain effect and I put Zeus on it. Would have preferred poison or doom but it still added decent damage, especially when I got the Zeus boon that keeps enemies shocked after I hit them with lightning. Then I had Artemis's homing cast, reduced time for the shards to fall out, and that they deal damage when they fall out. This ended up being a decent ranged DPS build so I could survive vs the third boss. Practicing 1v1 vs the Minotaur helps a lot too. But for the final boss I wiped easily since I had no idea about his patterns.

My goal is to get the rapid fire upgrade for the bow or the spear and add poison to it but that never seems to happen. Unlucky

It is clunky, but some of the boons make it really nice. Zeus and Artemis are two of my favorites. Ideally you always want an enemy tagged with a blood shard (if the cast allows it), since it either makes your damage higher or their damage lower (depending on which version of the thing in the mirror you have). Then of course there are special builds you can do to spice things up. If you change the bow into Aspect of Hera (third aspect), you will use the cast to imbue blood shards into your next attack. That can give you really nice nukes, like with the Ares cast. Check out this:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Br_a0qlYe4o
He gets really insane damage on his cast imbued autos.

  • When does Thanatos show up? I beat the game once but he isnt even supposed to be locked behind that. He also just hasnt shown his face yet at all.
  • Whats the final keepsake? Im missing 2 and I dont know who the last one belongs to.
  • How to unlock the 4th aspect for each weapon? The game gives no indication of how to achieve this.

It's a tricky boss, I definitely can't do it consistently yet. But there's a room you get sometimes on the third floor where you get to fight the minotaur alone, and IMO that helps a lot with learning his pattern. Then in the duo fight you just need to also be aware of the cross hair that Theseus puts on you so you can hide behind obstacles/dodge accordingly.

  • Eventually, you just have to die enough times. The character arcs progress like once per death, so if you're too good you'll finish the game before you meet everyone.
  • No idea. You might wanna check the wiki for this one.
  • There's a guide on the subreddit. Essentially you start off with unlocking the spear, by unlocking at least five other aspects, having the list of achievements (you get it after enough deaths I think), and fighting Hades once. Then you'll get clues for most of the other weapons in conversations with various characters, if you've spent at least five Titan's blood on them. There's a guide on this link: https://www.reddit.com/r/HadesTheGame/comments/h0naxg/hades_general_info_and_resources/
