Such a good trailer, along with the music. Even watching it today, it (along with the Prydwen scene) still gives me chills. It feels like people are talking about FO4 in a more positive light these days, compared to a few years ago. Not the writing or role-playing aspects of it, but just because it's...fun! It deserves it imo.

I played it for the first time recently and people do give it a lot of shit while ignoring the good aspects of it, like yeah, the main story is trash, the factions are awful, not a single good NPC, etc, so the whole roleplaying aspect goes down the drain...

But i legit found it fun to just explore and fight shit in the world, the locations were interesting and pretty, the enemy variation was nice, and the overall fallout universe lore and the nods to fallout 3 and older fallout games was nice, also most of the companions were great.

Far Harbor was probably the best DLC i've played (not including new vegas) and puts every DLC from fallout 3 to shame, and the experience is even better if you bring Valentine with you, it adds SO much to it...
Im a bit biased on this one though because that whole DLC is almost a stephen king novel reference, and the ending was great, and the "post credits" scene for it brilliant and hilarious.

On the flip side, the nuka cola world dlc? probably the most stinkiest piece of shit dlc i've played in my whole fucking life and i hope whoever designed it lost their job because holy shit... the moment i was told that i could ignore the whole questline and just murder everyone i went for it, and the best part? its not even morally reprehensible to do so because by doing so you're legit freeing slaves from a bunch of slaver factions...

Overall if you focus on the roleplaying aspect? yeah the game is dogshit, but that's not all of the game's weight IMO.

What you said is how I feel, too! On the other hand I understand the disappointment from people really wanting that good role-play experience, since it's Bethesda. I wonder how Starfield is going to be in that respect--it feels like their games have been dialing it back more and more.

They pretty much messed up the Fallout...ness of the series, but I still enjoy the game tons though. I especially love the settlement building stuff.

The party members were alright in FO4 on account of having some personality unlike in FO3

I enjoyed the NPCs/Party Members in 4 myself. By far the best Bethesda has ever done, but then other than Serana in Dawnguard the party members have almost entirely been people to just take a hit for you.

They've always done great with world building/exploration though, but at least before they coupled it with decent stories/faction stuff. Skyrim had already started to slip in this regard, but they did improve with their DLC's but decided to take ten steps back with Fallout 4 for some reason.

No offense, but I feel like you could take a cue from your own advice here and not focus too much on the dogshit writing. Nuka World is a microcosm of the game as a whole - weak premise, (mostly) bad writing, but a very fun worldspace to explore. Having had to actively go out of my way to avoid or put off the main plot in both Fallout 3 and 4, I find it perversely liberating to have a Bethesda game finally encourage you to literally wipe out its driving plot element and just explore the worldspace at your own leisure.

Of course your mileage may vary. I went into Nuka World expecting some generic amusement park, and was quite pleasantly surprised to find that they'd gone full-blown Disney World parody; I love going to Disney World, so it was easier to notice and appreciate all the references great and small, from the sci-fi movie drive-in down to the Spanish-language 'please stand clear of the doors' announcement in the monorail. And to be fair they blew most of their creative energy on the Galactic Zone, but the other areas are still plenty fun, and the Kiddy Zone has a pretty decent sub-story by Bethesda standards.

This is what I never understood about the haters of this game. The exploring was legit one of the best aspect of the game and was fun as hell.

I like exploring Nuka World too. The setting is mostly fine. It's just Bethesda's half assed execution that brings it down. Especially with the typical thing where you're automatically the boss/head of everything.

I still need to play Nuka World. I did really like Far Harbor. New Vegas is my favorite of the Bethesda era games (still need to play 1 and 2) but I did have more fun exploring 4's world.

I guess it's telling when these days I see people recommending games like Wasteland, Atom, and UnderRail for their Fallout fix.

I've always liked 4. The voiced main character did kind of hurt some of the dialogue but besides that I dont see why some people hate it so much.

ive put 100's of hours into that game
one of my favorite series
absolutely loved the crafting and base building
combat is how it should be (finally)

but the voice acting, story, and boring NPCs definitely did hurt

tbh its mostly that i went for far harbor first since i was hyped for it, then i went to nuka world and it was like i was hit with a brick in my face because the NPC's and factions were god awful, and the portrayal of "raiders" in it was so pathetic i just didn't want anything with it.

In hindsight yeah maybe if took a page of my own comment and ignored it and focused on the exploring maybe i would've enjoyed it more, but the big difference is that while the main game's story was weak, it wasn't offensively bad, this thing was just awful, they had me for a sec when they trapped me in the hellmaze the raiders made, to "hey you're our new leader go commute with the criminal psychos that have literal slaves running their shit..."

I've heard a lot about it, both good and bad. I don't think the crafting/settlement building would be for me, but that exploration of the world definitely sounds intriguing

Not sure what made me think of it, but if you have or ever get a gaming PC, there's a particularly cool mod that lets you assault the Nuka World raiders with a Minutemen army at your back, after which the Minutemen will take over Nuka World with patrols, flags, etc. It's also available on XB1, or at least it was at one point; Fallout 4 runs like ass on the XB1 and I couldn't get the mod to work for very long without crashing, but I had a lot of fun with it while it worked. Here's a review of it by Oxhorn, a prolific reviewer of Fallout content:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=in9R8PjVXz4

Not that mods are ever a justification for poor Bethesda writing / design, but I thought I'd mention it if you ever wanted to commit a more expansive and lore-friendly scouring of the Nuka World raiders.
