What even is this? Did RWBY just absorb them or something?

Huh, I didn't realize they still made this. I think I stopped around season...9 or 10?

Season 9 and 10 were horrible enough that I almost quit, but the Chorus Trilogy was pretty good. Season 14 was sort of a mis-mash of short stories, then season 15 was them vs. evil twins and season 16 and 17 were a weird time-travel plot that was retconned to be a trilogy with season 15.

This doesn't surprise me.

From what I understand, most of the people involved with the original Red vs. Blue are out of Rooster Teeth or on their way out.

I knew Joel Heyman was fired and Burnie Burns left, but to be fair guys like Jason Saldaa (voice of Tucker) hasn't been a Rooster Teeth employee in forever and he still comes back to voice him.

I know Gus and Geoff will never leave, and Matt Hullum is still there. I know Dan Godwin (voice of Donut) was literally never a RT employee but still ended up being the main character of the last two seasons.

I think it was around season 6 where I clocked out of the series.

Wtf is this nonzero level of production values bs?

But for real, it looks like a far cry from what the series originally was, not that such is inherently bad, but it's amusing how much the concept of red v blue is still being milked.

I think I made it to like season 8? Anything after season 5 is a blur; the show just stopped being goofy comedy and started being convuluted melodrama that was hard to keep track of anymore

They put a new person (who was formerly the animator for Death Battle) in charge of the season and sounds like basically gave him free reign to do what he wants for a season.

This season is actually less connected to RWBY then the past seasons as it no longer is written by Miles and Kerry.

Which season or seasons would you all consider to be peak red vs blue?

You did indeed stab me in the back. However, you are only level one, whilst I am level 50. That means I should remain uninjured.

Oddly, I'd say it's season 2, 3, and 8.

8 felt like the natural conclusion to the series and I wish it had stopped there.

But season 8 might be the funniest Caboose of all time.

Is this actually what RvB turned into? I'm guessing none of the original writers/voice actors are still with the company, and this is a lame attempt to try and cash in on the good will they built

As mentioned above, Gus and Geoff will probably only leave on retirement. Matt is still there, Burnie has gone off to do his own thing (in Europe, I think), and Joel got fired/quit.

I've watched a lot of RvB, but I never really enjoyed it once it tried going for serious storytelling. The first four seasons or so which were just jokes with like a storyline kinda behind it were the best as far as I'm concerned.

Donut was the main character? Wow, he's come a long way. I remember them killing him off (I think?) temporarily.

I barely made it to season 10 and even back then it resembled nothing of what it used to. Season 8 would've been a good stopping point, but what on earth is this? I saw Wash there for a sec but nobody else I know. It doesn't look like they're even attempting the same kind of humour now.

A big plot point of the last season is that everyone ignores Donut and treats him like a joke.

And yeah most of the voice actors are still around and would be fine doing it but they decided to do a season (or more who knows) without them. Probably didnt want to let Torrian go crazy with the main cast.

Only real voice they have have lost is Joel (Caboose). Burnie left the company and moved away but is still on good turns and would probably do VA work for them if they wanted him to.

I dont think so? Officially I believe it is just "personal reasons" but there are lots of rumors about issues with him.

Nothing MeToo or anything like that just stuff about him being a bad coworker.

A better question to ask is 'why did it take so long to fire Joel'. He went full pants-on-head-MAGA. Outside of the generic baggage this brings, he took it to the next level by doing stuff like telling a coworker "Your leftist friends are going to burn down your house and kill your animals", telling a different one that he hoped their house would be invaded so they learned the value of a gun (not long before their home was actually invaded), revealed private info belonging to another coworker. Oh, and he stopped showing up to work, which didn't help.

EDIT: Everything I said is just the stuff on public record. I imagine there's a lot more we never heard about. He would've been out the door waaay earlier if he wasn't an original company founder.

To be fair, there's a lot of rumors about shit going badly in RT, including some #metoo stuff and Mica Burton (Lavar Burton's daughter) accusing them of racism while she worked there.

A year ago they laid off about 13% of their staff.

Somehow Joel Heyman ended up being dumber than Caboose.

Some more Joel Heyman things on public record:

-Got into an argument with a coworker about politics online, randomly blurted out personal information about that coworker's girlfriend as a personal attack

-Said he was "rooting for cancer" in regards to John McCain

Also, people who quit at season 10? I do recommend the Chorus Trilogy (seasons 11-13). It's not perfect but it's a pretty nice blend between the usual humor and the more serious nature they inserted into the Recollections Trilogy (6-8).

It's also got some great antagonists, too.

My understanding of the Mica situation was not that people at RT were racist but that commenters and community members were racist and the company did nothing to stop them/didnt really support her and just told her to ignore them.

What were the MeToo rumors?

Also, I'm pretty sure they're doing this because their last original show (also very anime) ended up failing, and they wanted a success and hope to capitalize on the Red vs. Blue name.

The layoffs happened because they made a video game and it bombed. Think they axed the whole division they had set up for that, as well as various people in other departments.

A VP got arrested for domestic abuse but he wasn't on-screen talent or a face of the company at least.

The Mica thing was probably the biggest deal out of everything in the topic and is still ongoing. Roosterteeth came in support of BLM and Mica came out and publicly talked about how little support they gave her within the company when she was an employee and had to deal with their terrible, toxic fanbase full of racist sexist manbabies. Roosterteeth has actually taken that criticism to heart and has started openly contesting the shitty parts of their fanbases instead of ignoring them, which has caused some contention, especially in their youtube fanbase which never seemed to fully come to terms with the idea of women existing.
