seems like they really screwed the pooch on this one.

did they just not notice when baby yoda got everyone to turn a blind eye to their shitty dealings less than a year ago? i dont understand why they thought they were gonna get by without the equivalent this time, but im sure they learned a valuable lesson. that lesson is that if you've always gotta put a cutesy funny character in your shit if you want the western world to ignore all of the shitty things youve done and all of the shitty people you choose to associate with.

Mulan's story really needs a character that:

1. Knows who she is.
2. Supports her anyway so that she can talk to said character about it.

This is, I think, why they decided to add the witch character after taking out Mushu, but man did they fuck that up. The obvious solution would have been to have made one of the young men from her village bump into and recognize her on their way to the camp, and when she explains what she's trying to do, he accepts it out of respect for her father. This character then could have taken Mushu's role in the story.

way more complex than it needs to be. this is disney we are talking about here. they dont want complex characters with fleshed out stories, they want to make money. they can't make money on it because there is no super cute character to distract all the idiots from any controversy.

Super spoiler-y video but it pretty much spells out what most people suspected: The movie was going to be a trainwreck. It's amazing that as bad as I thought it was going to be, it's somehow even worse. Oh well, at least it looks like it has cool special effects.
