I thought it was pretty good if a tad alarmist

They did a good job of explaining how extremists think the other side are a bunch of morons.They get all of their news from social media --> the only articles and ads they see are in support of their chosen philosophy --> they assume this is the same "news" the other side sees --> "how could the other side NOT agree??"

I see a lot of that kind of stuff here, tbh

I hate when people blame social media sites for this though. Its our responsibility as adult humans to parse this bullshit. If we can't then we probably should not be part of society, at all.

the average person is not even close to comprehending how massive social media networks function. It's utter bullshit to blame uninformed and vulnerable individuals when the people running the machine know exactly what's going on.

How is that alarmist? Facebook has been used to facilitate genocides because of this, and is in the process of helping start another one in Ethiopia. Not to mention Qanon bullshit and the festering strains of white supremacy and fascism in the west.
