Congratulations to the winner of Broken Tier, Gambit, for beating Bugs Bunny 9-8. The Broken-tier character I denoted as less powerful than any other, who almost swapped with Rand to be in hard, apparently excels at beating meta characters. Who knew.

i put him there without even considering New Son, since I trusted Marvel not at all to have had him use his power to turn matter directly into energy or something equally absurd in one random issue, blowing him out of high tier

I think it weird that you would consider a one time temporary powerup like this, but you think giving Harry Potter a broomstick is out of bounds.

Also, on the subject of Rand, apparently Balefire is too OP to allow him to have it, even though its a signature ability of his. But Gambit gets his one time super powerup because why not.

Balefire doesn't make senes because peak Rand doesn't use it. He uses everything else in his arsenal instead, and it relies on a powerup anyway.

i just said i didn't consider it when tiering, it didn't really seem to be a pivotal component to his success (he was only against meta characters where raw strength wasn't really a factor), and I didn't know how temporary a powerup it was or how it worked at all. If people's arguments hinged on his New Son powers and somebody informed me he only had them for like ten minutes then I'd've said something, and that didn't happen. OTOH, I *do* know that Harry doesn't bring his broomstick to fights, and isn't nearly punctilious enough to have it easily accessible if he *was* in a fight. People cited him summoning it against the dragon. That shows he doesn't think to keep it around when he might need it

No, he doesn't, even without New Son. Where is he getting the potential energy for his cards to explode? Chemical potential energy would be off by a few orders of magnitude too low. Gravitational potential energy is off by a few orders of magnitude in either definition, depending on how you defined it. It's made up, and again, it's Marvel, who famously don't understand physics. I'd rather have somebody who is weak by Broken standards than ridiculously broken by High standards, which, as I've said, I thought was very likely. People act like I know everybody about all of the characters when I generally have to depend on poorly-written wiki summaries.

And according to these sources, his New Son powers definitely don't look like a joke for Broken. "Using his powers to travel through space-time, cross dimensions, and remake realities outside of space-time by transforming himself into living energy which joined with the kinetic flow" are definitely not playing according to the laws of physics anyway

I dunno I guess it depends on how you define broken. There have been plenty of mistiered entries. From a quick glance New Sun Gambit, while powerful, isn't THAT insane. At least nothing like the bullshit Flash can get up to and I think he's in this at mid or high tier.

I can understand the sudden limiters being annoying like in the case of Balefire. Next go around would be better to take things as is and tier accordingly (if tiers are even a thing) unless they are specifically put in a certain way from the get go or at least make it clearer.

I think no-balefire Rand is a lot more interesting to discuss than "haha balefire go brr"

Rand has a ton of combat versatility but nobody will ever look at any of it if balefire's on the table. So yeah, good call.

He's also a walking Gamefaqs Flash situation, since he has no base personality to determine what he would even do in a fight. If you want him to play super optimally and go in with an I Win button, he will be voted as such. If you don't, he won't and there is no canon to say either way what's right

Maxwell could just as easily instalose by derping the wrong words out. the variance of maxwell's worth is HEAVILY variable, and you could just as easily immediately instafail in a challenge. There's no real factor to look at beyond the player, and i don't trust most gamers, myself included.
