If the discless PS5 strikes somewhere in the $400s then I'll be a happy camper.

I'd be a happier camper if they were like Microsoft and didn't hold their games hostage, but that's neither here nor there.

Normally I'd feel bad for a leak... but it's just a price. Frankly, both Microsoft and Sony should have told us by now if they expected us to pre-order it.

In this case I think it's more that Microsoft is looking to absorb significant hardware losses while making up those losses with software sales and Xbox Live/Game Pass/etc.

Reports indicate its a 4-teraflop machine that uses the same CPU as in Series X, paired with a less powerful GPU and less RAM. Its said to be designed for 1080p and 1440p gaming, whereas Series X can deliver 4K.

seems like a pretty good pick up if you're only intrested in game pass and nothing else

I'm guessing PS5 will come in at 400 for the digital version and 500 for the disk version

But I can also see them trying to undercut Microsoft and price the disk version slightly below 500 as well

That'd be ideal and would probably get me to buy the digital version.

I just don't think they can go higher than $500 at risk of being meme'd harder than they still are for "599 US DOLLARS"

They could absolutely still go in that direction but they would need to change their messaging from how he did on the PS3 telling people to get 2 jobs

Although they already said they will emphasize value as opposed to price on the PS5 so I don't think there's anything to worry about in that regard

I'd be shocked if the digital version was $400.

I'm guessing $550 and $500, possibly subtracting $50 from one or both of those. I don't see a scenario where either hits $400. I could be totally wrong though!

That 250 price point is a really good move. Undercuts Nintendo by 30 and will basically win over all those parents that just want a cheap system to put under the tree.

seems like a pretty good pick up if you're only interested in game pass and nothing else because it'll probably be running Series X games at minimum settings

That and a Blu Ray drive. To MS it's worth it to take a sizable loss to keep people from buying used or renting/borrowing.

Thats why I asked because I thought it couldn't be just that.

So the S is a digital only version then?

There'll be a big difference at 1080p too, I'm sure. Frame rates will probably be hit, depending on the game, and maybe other graphics as well.

They say they can get 120 fps at 1440p so there should be no difference in frames at 1080p imo. It's more powerful than the One X. It is also the smallest xbox ever made.

The biggest difference will be the size of the SSD at 512GB on a digital version. However, you should be able to stream xcloud to it also to save space if you want to also, in addition to just installing games you are playing and deleting after when done.

I always laugh when people say this. What is the difference between an all digital console and a physical copy console space-wise? They both install exactly the same amount per game. The disc is just an authorization to download a copy required to access digital version of the game lol. That said, the All Digital and regular PS are only 800gb SSDs too.

I just prefer disc drives cuz physical is cheaper than digital quite often.

it's difficult to believe the S will be as performant as the X, even at 1080p

IDK. I would think the X is redundant at 1080p in many measures. You might get some more draw distance or something but if frames can supposedly be done at 120 for 1440p, I can't see frame issues being an issue at 1080p for it. Especially figuring the One X could do 4k at 60fps pretty good and this is stronger.

The One X struggled with games like Control, often dropping down to 15 FPS at 1080p. Not sure if the Series S will be much better, considering the seemingly weaker graphics card, and next gen games will be even more demanding than Control.

Series S is way stronger than the One X. If the One X struggled with a game that much, then it was unplayable on the PS4 Pro or it was not properly optimized by the dev.

Lower than the actual conversion by around $15, which is good news.

I'd say "500GB for a next gen console?" It was already pretty bad with PS4 install sizes.

This would be surprising considering comparably powered PCs ran it just fine.

From what I understand, they will be able to reduce sizes some due to not having to place redundant assets on the file now. The sizes should still creep up but 500gb should be able to hold a few games at the same time or so.
