They're overworked and tired. Sure they've still got a job and some receive more pay.... but why are unemployed people making more than an essential worker? Referring to those that work in grocery stores and warehouses.

Maybe the problem is that wages are too low?

Cool. So we have essential workers whose jobs have to be done, and they're still paid like shit.

The job is necessary, but whoever does it has to deal with poverty. Hmm.

Were not benefiting. At all.

Oh we got an extra $2 an hour for a few months there. Whoop-de-doo.

Ill never stop being salty* that people on unemployment (especially younger people who didnt even need it) got more than I did working a 45-hour 6-day work week where I had to drive about 40 minutes one way to get there.

*Id actually stop being salty about it if someone said hey, heres like $10,000 for busting your ass at your shitty grocery store job where you got treated like dirt, thanks for doing that in these troubling times but thats not gonna fucking happen.

I appreciate you. Also, no amount of unemployment money can buy character and a good work ethic and at the end of the day you can at least know that you have that.

This entirely. They are more concerned about the economy than peoples lives. If people are making 60% of their normal wages on unemployment, they spend less, companies aren't selling as much, and the economy starts to tank. The sole and literal reason for the stimulus money is to stimulate the economic numbers. The government doesn't give a shit if you are an essential worker or not working, they want the money to keep flowing.

I think overnight being a nurse went into a pretty enviable job in my area. I live in a place where there are oodles of nurses already but yeah. If an essential worker has job security right now in this climate, and they're not dealing with pay cuts, then I'd have to see that as a benefit. If the argument is that grocery store workers suddenly need to be paid a lot more - yeah, just no. It's eminently replaceable.

We're not. Profits are up but also corporate is cutting hours. If it didn't sound so stupid, I would guess PHARMACY CHAIN EMPLOYER is invested heavily on the vaccine producers and want to max out infections before it rolls out and cashing in on it big. It's laughable how one day we just got rid of all the enhanced cleaning and social distancing measures and can no longer refuse to serve someone without a mask. "New policy from corporate says..." yeah fuck off.
