Everybody knows that the entire interview process is just stock questions met with stock answers pulled from or inspired by the internet so what's the point?

Name a time you dealt with adversity and how you dealt with it.

*make up some BS story that nobody can verify about how someone was a shithead and you were the peaceful diplomat that made peace across the five kingdoms because nobody is ever gonna make themselves look bad in their own story*

Why do you want to work for us?

Mention literally anything else besides the desire to not be poor or the fact that you're bored sitting at home all day.

Name one weakness

"Hurr durr Im a perfectionist so it makes me irritable when a price sticker isn't perfectly aligned also I take my job too seriously, I often neglect my wife and kids so I can earn more money for my corporate overlord woo baby"

Do you have any questions for me?

Ask a bunch of meaningless questions to make it look like you're super interested in the company, while holding back from answering the one question you actually care about the answer to: "How much are you paying?"

Thats a terrible answer even when removing your sarcasm. Yikes.

People pick who they want to work with, with an answer like that I wouldnt hire you since you sound insufferable lol. All the questions you listed are easy questions that should be answered truthfully in the context of a business interview.

Right. If you fuck up this basic social interaction, you shouldn't be hired for a job where you'll need to interact socially.

If that's the case, I'd call for a more informal, free-form type of interview to be the standard instead of one where everything is heavily rehearsed and pretty much everyone involved is BSing.

BSing is one of the most important skills in damn near any office job. Without BSing, society would collapse.

If you actually believe this, then you've never had to hire, train, and manage employees.

A job interview tells you a ton of different things

Do they show up on time?
How do they compose themselves?
Do they work well under pressure?
Do they listen to the questions? (huge)
For specific jobs (customer face, sales, etc) are they able to articulate themselves
Did they take the time to do research on the company? (i.e. is this "just another 4 months gig before moving on?")
Do they ask the right questions?
Am I going to have to fire this person in 3 months and do this whole process over again, working extra hours away from my family, sometimes travelling across the country, etc

It also gives someone with a weaker resume a chance to shine.

If you get to the point where you are having to hire people, you'll understand why at least some type of interview is absolutely not BS

You're fucking kidding right?

I did HR for a huge manufacturing company and let me tell you, had we not interviewed people before putting them on a line (which simply cannot wrap my head around) they'd have ended up killing themselves and costing us millions. It is beyond concerning how stupid your average worker really is, and some of the shit they will say to the person who's making the call if they get a job or not.
I have a tattoo on my hand, and one guy I was interviewing took that as we are *super* casual as soon as he noticed it. Started swearing, asking about if theres a point system for lateness (LMFAOno), he had his gf waiting in the lobby who I am certain was on heroin....yeah ya gotta talk to people who could potentially cost the company millions. I personally would never work anywhere that did not interview, that should be a huge red flag. Mostly as I've never heard of such a thing.

A lot depends on the type of job being interviewed for

Sales?
Tech Support?

I'd expect someone that knows how to ask questions. It's near impossible to go over everything a job description requires and at minimum, their questions let you know they have some type of experience. "You didn't mention phone blocking - is that something your reps are required to do?" let's me know 2 things. 1, you have likely done phone sales before. 2, you don't like phone calls (the word "required"...if they ask "Do I 'get' to do phone calls?" (said no one ever haha)).

Exactly. They honestly are NOT interested in the answers, they are interested in how you come to the answers. They are trying to figure out how you solve problems.

btw when an interviewer starts a question with "Tell me about a time X happened and what did you do about it?"

They want specific answers, and they also want you to discuss the resolution. That second part of the question is designed to see if you actually listen to questions.

The problems TC is having is that hes overestimating the average applicant.

The questions might be mundane or fluff. But its because people genuinely are so stupid, they answer like they dont want the job.

The Is there a point system for tardies? is a perfect example of a moron who thought he was asking a great question.

job interviews are a two way street, they're all about making sure you're the right fit with the team/company from a cultural perspective, and that the company is the right fit for you and your career. it's like a first date, you're getting to know each other

It's not easy to get your foot in the door. Basically, you have to be able to sell yourself well. You're competing with many other candidates, so if you can show that you are a top candidate, then you will have better odds at landing an offer.
