Galaxy 2 (the best 3D mario) got snubbed, and I doubt it'd be that much more effort to port given that they've done Galaxy. Additionally, this will no doubt launch for full price. For reference, you can get Mario 64 and Galaxy for $30 total on the Wii U eshop, so they're essentially charging you $30 for the worst 3D Mario.

  1. I agree that the lack of Galaxy 2 is very jarring.
  2. The vast majority of Switch-owners don't have a Wii U.

You can get a Wii U for about $100. Regardless, consumers are getting a raw deal.

I would have liked for them to go the extra mile and remaster them. Lets be real, most people who will buy this likely already have both versions of 64, sunshine is meh. Just seems kinda flat for an anniversary collection, especially at a price that wont drop.

But then you also get access to the Wii U's Virtual Console as well as its library. Even though Wii U ports exist on the Switch, if you buy just 3 of them, you'd save more money getting a Wii U and the Wii U versions of those games.

That's not the point, though; the point is that Nintendo is overcharging even by its own metric. Spend your money wisely.

You're right on the VC, but the Switch versions of those Wii U games tend to have additional content in them, so in light of that, it really doesn't make much sense to get the Wii U version if the Switch version offers more to do in them.

I'm not even sure if I will even buy this thing (I do have a Wii U and access to SM64, Galaxy, and Galaxy 2, and the versions in the collection appear to pretty much be the same as their original versions). I'm just explaining why some people would.

Not a fan of limited release. Physical? Not great but ok. But for both? Not liking it at all. Probably wont attempt getting it physical.

But ill Buy digitally. Never played SMG and the last version of 64 was the DS one. Which I enjoyed and would love it on Switch, but whatever.

Been awhile for Sunshine too...

yeah. 60 dollars is fine for me.

I gotta admit I'm kinda disappointed in this. No graphical improvements (as the original Mario All Stars did with the NES games), no Galaxy 2, and no 3D World or 3D Land. Like there's nothing about this package that's not better than just emulating the games.

I'm making sure to pick it up, because I've pretty much barely played any of these. I played a little of 64 and Sunshine, but not since I was little, so I never finished them, and I just never had Galaxy. So this is a great pickup as far as I'm concerned.

It only being available for 6 months is real ****ing dumb as far as I'm concerned, especially since it means getting a physical copy will probably be next to impossible.

That is a good point too. A limited release of 3 games for $60, nothing changed. Both Spyro and Crash collections have 6 games combined for that and all 6 games were remastered. Even Tony Hawk 1 and 2 is $40. I mean yea its a cash grab, Im just surprised at how many people are ok with it. Even back when the Jak and Daxter collected Started at $40.

This is true. I was really hoping 64 would be like the Spyro and Crash remakes. Imagine 64 with Odyssey type graphics, you know? I mean shit, they redid the graphics in the DS game smh. Oh well. Sunshine and Galaxy aged considerably better so I'd rather they just kept the old art style anyway, but the level of effort put into this is very disappointing. Especially since the original all stars did redo the graphics of the older games.

Then there's Galaxy 2 and 3D Land... Aside from 3D World, Galaxy 2 is the only one I never really played. Boy would that have made this a really nice package.

From my perspective this is a glorified port. The only change to the core game is a resolution change, so I wouldn't consider this a remaster. At the very least a remaster would come with improved textures. A remake is rebuilt from the ground up, that's just how I have always thought of it. Regardless I'm buying this, I love the 3d mario games and them being on the switch is convenient. You could argue it's overpriced but I'm okay with spending the money.

I think part of it is that the Spyro and Crash remakes have always been accessible. If you wanted to play the old school Spyro/Crash games and didn't still have a PS1 you could just buy the PS1 classics to play on your PS3, PS4, or PSP for 6$ a piece.

Compare that with 3D Mario, which has been available on the WiiU shop, but that's pretty much it. 64 had a remake on the DS over a decade ago, but other than that if you want one of these, you pretty much need the original games + the Wii/Gamecube/N64 to play them on.

At least the reason I'm buying it is because I don't own any of these games, nor have a functional N64/Gamecube/Wii to play them on. A full remaster would be great, but I guess since there's basically nowhere else to obtain most of these games, Nintendo gets to 1/2 ass things a bit. Not that I agree, but I can kind of see why Nintendo figured they could get away with this.

I wouldn't really use such harsh words, but I know what you mean. Frankly I don't think that this is an unreasonable move. But recently there has been a precedent of older games with remade graphics for discount prices. It just would have been nice if they followed in those footsteps.
