MGS2 pretty much predicted today

it has a so bad its good type of story

but what sets it apart from other ridiculous media like it is that it actually has meaningful themes, especially anti-war, censorship and information sabotage themes.

I'll try my best to summarize based on what I know, feel free to correct me

During WWII some American lady invented CQC with her student, and they kidnapped a lot of generals together.
Years later, she had a kid named Ocelot.
During the 60s, the lady was going to Russia so her student stopped and killed her. In addition, the student met Ocelot. Fast forward, he became friends with Ocelot who got a revolver. Ocelot's a triple agent or something. By this point the student's called Big Boss.
The two of them form some super secret military force, but Huey Legless betrayed them after inventing metal gear with the stuff he stole from his teacher.
Fast forward 9 years. Big Boss has his medicine surgically altered and brainwashed to be his body double. This phantom works with Ocelot to create a military force while Big Boss went to build a military country in South Africa called Outer Heaven.
Fast forward more and Big Boss rejoined America as a secret agent and sent Solid Snake to destroy Outer Heaven, but he succeeded when Boss expected him to fail.
Boss fled America to build an amusement park called Zanzibarland, because he accidentally caused his phantom to die.
Solid Snake killed Boss for real a few years later in zigzagland but his body was retrieved.
Nanomachines or something. Freaking ninjas, Alaska got blown up, Solid Snake was actually one of a few super clones of Big Boss and he had to fight his brothers and the people injected with Boss' genes for super spy stuff I guess.
Also, Snake got old but Otakon helps him out. Otakon is Huey's kid who cucked his dad to death, which also avenged his mom so score: 1. Woo. Then old snake kills Ocelot who is controlled by his brother and I guess that's the end of the timeline.

Honestly? No. And I love that series. I understand the first MGS just fine, but I haven't played Sons of Liberty since I was like 12 and a ton of that game went over my head. Then I played Snake Eater which was straight forward and understandable, and then 4 was a continuation of SoL's insanity I didn't understand just like 5 years later so I forgot everything.

I understand 5 fine enough, but that's because there's not much story there anyway.

Actually I take it back I don't understand 5 because I never listened to the tapes. I wasn't about to have a games story dictated to me.

I tend to care more about the atmosphere and feeling when playing games than if the story is technically good or coherent so I think they work well in that regard you know creating an experience but I cant say I entirely understand the plot.

CE skips cutscnes so story is not important to them.

I haven't played Peace Walker and know nothing about the plot, but this is a real thing. They even talk about it in MGS1. IIRC, one of the reasons REX is a threat because it bypasses nuclear deterrence since its missiles can't be tracked and sourced back to an origin.

Yes, I understand the entire plot of the Metal Gear series as I am a big fan. The plot is flawed but it is still really interesting IMO.

Portable Ops is technically considered only partially canon, because it wasn't written by Kojima. But it still deserves a spot on the timeline I suppose.

I just realized I also missed out on a FFVIII reference. The best way to stop time dilation/ nukes is by allowing it to happen/ having nukes.

You guys are forgetting about ACID 1 and 2 as well, those games were great.

I know they aren't canon, but I agree. I only played, but it was like the only card game I ever got into (besides the Pokemon one on GBC when I was like 8). That game was just pure fun on the PSP.

I understood the plot of all the ones I played. Besides MGS2 there wasnt any real ambiguity.

If anything MGS4s biggest weakness is that it shoved in lame resolutions to mysteries that were never intended to have an answer. >_>

Patriots planted a device on her that deflected bullets. Ocelot used a similar device in the beginning of MGS2 iirc. Been a while since I played.
