I think they just there is no war in Ba Sing Se'd the remnants of the empire and those turned into the First Order while the New Republic continued to sit on their ass and do nothing

I mean, kinda sorta, but they honestly kinda hand waved it.

I like bits and pieces of the sequel trilogy, and I'm one of those Last Jedi defenders (I think as a whole it's the best of the sequel trilogy), but overall they shot themselves in the foot with having different directors for each movie and not having a cohesive plot from the get-go. Overall the sequel trilogy is a disjointed mess, despite having cool moments scattered throughout.

We were told that it was a thing that existed and the first time its shown to us it ****ing explodes. And then were left with a small group of rebels vs. a giant evil empire.

i literally dont remember them blowing up like 90% of the new republic. then again i only watched the movies once when they came out

The way both Abrams and Johnson handled the New Republic is a key factor why the Sequel Trilogy is a lot more meh than it had to be.
