But i won't lie, I'm ready for the game to be over. Jrpgs really have a fetish for being a dozen or two hours longer than they need to be

3rd was my favorite of the 6 I've played (haven't gotten around to the 2 crossbell games)

I just finished SC last night. Started Sky the 3rd today.

So far I've played in this order

Cold Steel 1
Cold Steel 2
Cold Steel 3
Sky FC
Sky SC

While I should have started with Sky, I don't think cold steel spoils as much of Sky as people say. I'm planning on playing the two crossbell games after the 3rd and I just got Hajimari for the PS4 for when I finish cold steel 4. Thank god my fiancee is obsessed with animal crossing/baldur's gate now giving me time to play through these while working from home. These are my favorite games of all time. Can't believe I only discovered them because I was looking up games similar to Persona 5.

It isn't Sky that Cold Steel spoils (until CSIV, anyway), it's Crossbell.

Lol that's similar to how I got into them. Beat FF7R and Persona 5 Royal and wanted more. Saw Cold Steel on sale and bought it, then sat on it for like a month after playing the tutorial thinking it was "ok."

Came back to it on a whim cuz I had nothing else to do and proceeded to get absolutely hooked, now it's my favorite series

you know, that's okay. Spyro is great, I had a lot of fun with the remake trilogy.

I just beat CS3 last night. I haven't played Ao, Zero, or The 3rd. Now to patiently wait for CS4.

My mom used to be really into WoW, but that's it for video games. Closest she's been to being into the weeb media is watching and liking a Japanese drama with me. A fluffy romantic one starring a boy band member I had a super crush on as a teen. sigh lol

It's amazing how much of Tokyo Xanadu is just copy and pasted from Cold Steel lol right down to having Towa in it

Also I'm pretty sure I had Scherazade on NES. Couldn't ever get far in it. Mixed Zelda and an RPG together

The idea is that fan translations require the base game for it to work. It was always a sticking point for SFC games, and any other game that never made it out of Japan. Considering that you are actually buying it here, not torrenting it, I'd liken it to more of a fan mod than anything. It's been less readily enforced since the digital media age came about, where you could buy games from outside of your home region and play them on your own system.

Took me like 15 minutes to find the patch for Ao, and someone already posted the link to buy the game. Or you can wait a bit till the geofront finishes their patch.

I had played Azure with the current translation available and it was mostly fine.

I'm glad I did before playing Cold Steel 3. While CS3 does a pretty good job of summarizing critical information from previous games, you don't have the emotional investment if you didn't experience the previous games IMO.

True. I would have gotten far more enjoyment out of the bits of characters we see from the Crossbell arc, and the maturation of events from there. I don't feel like I missed anything, though.

It's often more of a holy shit type moment when something from previous games are referenced and you get an update on what happened between cs2 and 3 with some characters, locations, organizations, etc.

That said, the writing really does a great job of not making you feel lost so kinda coming full circle here with the OP.

I know at some point I'd like to play the series in release order.

I went FC, SC, CS1, CS2, the 3rd, Zero, Azure, CS3.

Pretty much localized release order until CS3.

XSEED did the translation for the 3rd, and now NISA is localizing all of Nihon Falcom's properties.

Like you could find a cheap refurbished office PC on ebay for under $100 that you could hook up to a tv via HDMI and you'd be good to go.

I've now played the entire series up to CSIV and III did not disappoint at all. I could see why people rated it so highly. The dialogue did feel off at times, but at other times, was executed excellently.

Playing the crossbell games enhances the experience of future games if you're able to play them.

Was he vulnerable to that? I didn't think he would be so I didn't bother. He wasn't hard at all at any rate

I beat it. I'm glad I went back to these games. Great characters and story.

Maybe I'll play the other 3 some way some day. If only they'd do a collection on a console

i know one of the trails from zero final bosses is vulnerable to it. its actually very sad to just beat down this boss without them ever getting a turn, so i didnt do it. i didnt even want to try on the actual final boss because it would depress me if they were vulnerable to it.

like imagine a boss thats weak to instant death spells. its very sad

That Star Door 15 in sky the 3rd though....

After playing through the cold steel games 1-3 and the sky games, I was not expecting the last 10% of the 3rd to be that dark.
