Rules: 1._Vote for your favorite rivalry(ies). Bracket: https://challonge.com/es/e0cpkkjf Discussion Topic: https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/boards/8-gamefaqs-contests/78857778 Today's contestants: MATCH 1: Marvel vs. Capcom (Crossover Fighting Game Franchise) Giving birth to one of the most iconic fighting game franchises, the origins of the first game was not something that came out of the blue there were several games that got released before the first MvC, such as X-Men vs. Street Fighter, and Marvel Superheroes vs. Street Fighter (I actually own the latter, but not just any version I have the Japanese version which includes Norimaru as a playable character!). The multiple crossovers ultimately led to what we now now as the ultra-popular Marvel vs. Capcom. The reason why its so popular among all other fighting game crossovers is not only because of the characters (which are already really popular on their own), but also because its a very accessible and beginner-friendly fighting game: it features an Auto mode for special moves, and its very easy to start off a combo and continue on. Even though the franchise has lost some steam because of questionable decisions Capcom has made over the years, its legacy has transcended multiple generations and inspired lots of other crossovers. -Advokaiser Guitar Hero vs. Rock Band (Rhythm Games) These two franchises are actually half-brothers. Guitar Hero came first, and Rock Band, shortly after. The preference you might have regarding GH and RB comes down to pretty much how you prefer to play rhythm games: casually and with friends (Rock Band), or hardcore and at your own pace (Guitar Hero). I remember back when Guitar Hero II and III were the sensation back then, but I also remember a friend of mine who went bananas over the launch of Rock Band Beatles, announced to be released in 9/9/2009. (Whether or not he bought it is a totally different story.) Still the one who seems to have stayed relevant is Guitar Hero because of all the mods and possibilities you can explore with them; theres even a video of the Steamed Hams meme being played on it! -Advokaiser MATCH 2: GameFAQs Contests vs. Poll of the Day (GameFAQs Social Boards) Despite both communities having their own differences, they are much more alike than they realize. Case in point: the image above. Whenever a contest shows up, B8ers have lots of fun, while PotD rests because casuals go away and the regulars can have their own space and breathing time as well. As a fun fact, I was actually part of PotD before migrating to Board 8. The reason was that I found some users to be pretty toxic, particularly when I made a topic 10 years ago, back when I was 14, asking for recommendations of non-M-rated games at the time, and I received many negative comments, including: Grow a pair, dude. I decided to join Board 8 because of the contests, and I had a blast every time one showed up. Nevertheless, Ive learned throughout the years that toxicity is practically an innate part of not only GameFAQs boards in general, but of the whole internet as well. Its not good to generalize one board or one community because of some bad users, since there will always be trolls, but also really fun and funny users. -Advokaiser Thor vs. Loki (Marvel) Thor is Odins son. Loki is Thors stepbrother, but hes also the God of Mischief. Naturally, even though they were raised together, theyve had some pretty tough family issues, throughout the centuries. Loki may behave like a psychomaniac at times, but in the end, hes just trying to have fun in his own way.
