I adored New Mutants volumes 3 and 4, but haven't had a lot of attachment to the franchise outside of those runs. I imagine the connection here is pretty tenuous?

which is a shame because there was a plan for a potential sequel (apparently Warlock was actually planned for this movie but was pushed off to be a main part of the potential sequel due to the budget his character would require) but after the Disney purchase it's absolutely not happening

I haven't seen it, but I haven't seen a single good thing about it. I'm asking an honest questions since it's being memed on for how bad people think it is.

It is nowhere near the worst of the franchise

It's leagues ahead of Dark Phoenix and Origins. Considerably better than Apocalypse, The Wolverine and The Last Stand.

It's hard for me to put it much higher because I fucking love X-Men (even Last Stand). This is much lower budget than most superhero movies and the production issues are kind of obvious (the worst thing was just how rushed it felt at times to get it down to about 90 minutes when it could've used an extra like 20 minutes at least)

I mean it's kind of a moot point because you couldn't pay me to go to a theater right now. My roomate was interested in streaming it, and when I told him we'd have to actual go to the NCG he straight up laughed. Not sure what they were thinking with that.

Don't get me wrong. Some of it is rough. Some stilted dialogue, some surprisingly fast character changes, some stuff that just straight up seems like it was missing to the point I have to assume stuff was cut for Disney to get it down to a PG-13

Probably not something that would convince people who didn't care for the concept. Definitely satisfying as someone who loves the concept.

for the record there was literally 2 people in the theater aside from me and my girlfriend. They were several rows away and wearing masks, as were all the staff. You can't buy seats next to anyone else and I believe there's a capacity limit in place

The movie is getting absolute obliterated on both the critic and audience side of things, but you never know with this thinf. I often don't line up with others on superhero stuff. I finally got around to actually watching Birds of Prey two nights ago and thought it sucked, but I remember that getting praised as an underappreciated gem.

Keep fully in mind, I'm probably on the exact opposite end of the spectrum. This was my most anticipated movie of... fuck, was it 2017? And every year since. I'm a huge X-Men film franchise fan and desperately wanted this to be as good as possible, despite being worried after how awful Dark Phoenix was

It's a very flawed movie that is also very enjoyable

For what it's worth I was also not a big Birds of Prey fan. Wouldn't say it sucked but it also didn't grab me much beyond Huntress being excellent

Huntress was pretty good for her limited time in the movie.

I don't think I've ever disliked a casting in a superhero movie more than Rozie Perez as Montoya. It's one of the things I went in not actually knowing anything about, and it took maybe a minute into her first scene before I just completely couldn't take it.

I don't think I'll ever be able to bring myself to watch BoP due to what they did with Cass.

New Mutants I'm interested in to see what Frankenstein monster it's become after director's original vision of horror movie > Fox going no no less of that more generic Fox Men movie > disney takeover > disney pushing it back towards horror.

The New Mutants has been my most hyped movie for three years, and I'm just not... I dunno. I don't wanna go see it. Just the theater stuff. I know I'll enjoy the hell out of the movie, but fuck.
