What I cant stand is there are actually people out there that would try to sue their neighbor over something like that. Take some personal responsibility and quit trying to blame someone else when things go wrong for you. The frivolous lawsuits and the crooked lawyers that support them here in this country are ridiculous.

Bro, people will sue for anything if it happens on someone else's property.

I have a claim where a neighbor offered to help the insured do some work on the insureds roof. The neighbor brought his OWN scaffolding and tools. The neighbor got unstable on the scaffolding HE set up and it felt over because HE didn't secure it properly himself. Fell and broke his ankle.

Suing the insured because it happened on the insureds property.

Is it generally covered on their policies? I feel like it could go either way. On one hand, there really aren't any other diseases out there that are both as infectious and as dangerous as Covid is, so there's little reason for an insurance policy to consider such a possibility and include specific clauses to cover it. On the other hand, my tenant insurance policy makes explicit mention of terrorism and nuclear incidents (neither of which are exactly measurable risks in my area), so I wouldn't be at all surprised if their policies covered such previously-negligible possibilities.

I have gotten at least one per day since school started.

Viral transmission isn't specifically excluded on our policies so it would depend on the other facts of the claim. They've pretty much told us that we'll cross that bridge when we come to it.

Many basic policies here removed "pandemics and epidemics" earlier this year like one or two months before official measures started.

I don't understand the question these parents are asking. Unless they don't mean health insurance, but if they are asking if their health insurance covers them getting sick wtf.

That's going to be fun to deal with. The joys of litigation.

Was that removed from policies in circulation, or just from new policies?

Basically, "can my neighbours sue me if my kids infect their kids with Covid when they all come over to play." It's not so much health insurance coverage as it is the potential for litigation to recover damages stemming from health issues.

If it helps, compare it to letting your kids bring a bunch of friends over when your house is infested with toxic mold, and what happens when one of them develops breathing problems because of it. My common sense interpretation would be to hold you liable for failing to disclose that risk and/or do your due diligence to prevent it from harming them. In the case of covid, however, everyone kind of already knows that infection is a risk whenever people gather, so there's less of a duty to disclose (unless you're knowingly positive and still invite them over, in which case that might actually constitute criminal action), so it's less clear.

I was thinking the other day, with parents complaining that schools are shut down, because they don't really have the infrastructure to have their kids participate in online schooling or because they're unable to really keep their kids home because school has always doubled as day-care for a lot of two-income American families and single parents, someone could make a lot of money if they opened a business that was a combined daycare/Internet cafe style set-up where you can keep multiple kids and give them access to online classes.

Then I thought, well, if you're going to do that, and since you'd need multiple adults there to act as chaperones/guardians to the kids while they're there, you could even have special tutors there who could help kids figure out how to use their online devices, or help them out with any concepts from their online classes that they don't quite get.

And, of course, you'd need a place to set all this up. Sure, you could rent a storefront or something, but it would probably be easier if you could just rent some place with a lot of space and separate rooms. Maybe like one of the school buildings that are currently not being used because school is cancelled.

That seems like something that would be pretty useful.
