It would never work, because there'd always be people who don't give enough of a shit, people who would actively screw with the effort solely to troll the people doing it, and then the person blocked would figure it out fairly quickly and immediately make an alt and taunt everyone else.

I could see someone disagreeing that Super Mario 3 was a good game and sincerely meaning it, without doing it just to troll or be contrarian.

The trick is, genre is key. Someone could show you the best visual novel game ever made, and if you don't like visual novels, you're still going to think it's shit. Force someone who only loves FPS games and cover-shooters to play the greatest 4X game ever, and they're going to hate it. Show me the greatest MOBA or Battle Royale game ever created, and I'm going to be bored to tears (or actively loathe them), because I don't like those genres. At all.

To someone who hates platformers, and who didn't play SMB3 as a kid (and thus has no nostalgia for it), they could easily dislike the game and be annoyed by how much other people overpraise it.

But now that I say that, that's what lots of people do to shut down anything they don't care for. Sports that aren't popular in America are dumb, rap is garbage, etc.

Especially people talking about video games, honestly.

Yeah, you're sort of touching on the problem there.

When people are talking about movies, almost NO ONE says things like "That movie wasn't something that appeals to me" or "I personally found that movie lacking." No, people say "Man, that movie was terrible" or "That was so bad."

We all sort of just view the world through our egocentric/ethnocentric lenses where we generalize our opinions and present them in more objective ways, so it becomes almost a knee-jerk response to describe things solely in terms of how WE see it, and not tack things like "It seems to ME that..." or "...but that's only my subjective opinion" onto the ends of any given sentence. It's EXTREMELY rare for anyone to present their specific opinions about something in a way that strongly emphasizes their awareness of how subjective their personal perception is - at best, the subjectivity is implied, and at worst, it's ignored.

This is actually a problem with English in general (and a problem at least some people have attempted to fix in the past):
