I can at least understand taking the side of the rioters or of the militia. I can't for the life of me process the idea that people shouldn't be arming themselves when this is happening more and more throughout the year. Unless you have thoughts of self harm or a more general mental instability, you should be taking one of the easiest and most basic steps to protect yourself and your family. Hell, even if you're suicidal, you can disassemble your gun and entrust the necessary parts to a close friend.

On the one hand Kenosha got way out of hand and there are probably some rioters who deserved to get shot because they went way too far and made some threats against innocents.

On the other hands these vigilantes seem a bit loony and probably are a little too trigger happy and they will probably end up hitting an innocnent if they havent already. I dont oppose armed deterrence in principle when shit hits the fan but I dont really trust the intentions of many of the groups that tend to show up.

TLDR everythings fucked glad I dont live in Kenosha.

How is it a spin when you omitted hundreds of local businesses? SURE entire cities werent burned to cinders but you mentioned Wendys and police stations, the institutions that can afford to lose a few buildings, before anything else. Most people agree with this and arent crying over big chains being destroyed compared to mom and pop stores or businesses with cultural relevance such as that famous St. Paul bookstore that was burned down.

What other conclusion am I supposed to draw from your comment other than you are assuaging the blame from rioters for some reason?

I saw nothing about the business owner in that article

And having worked in security I can say this much: your ability to defend property is heavily reduced unless you're the property owner and even then, you'd have to use reasonable force. Unnecessary escalation is going to get you charged heavily. It's why there's so few armed security gigs, because the insurance alone is way too much for most business owners to risk.

This was the attitude to have before cities and towns were having armed conflicts between citizens, long before right-wing radicalization birthed armed militias now showing up to "keep the peace". I would gladly recommend moving out of America, or moving to a new city if yours is a hotspot, or just bunkering down before picking up a gun, but for a lot of people, especially in a pandemic, the options are very limited, and you have to take care of yourself first.

I hate guns and violence, they should only be for self defense, and the last resort of the desperate. But right now, this country is filling up with desperation, and that's not going to stop anytime soon.
